Along with actively participating in political tasks, in recent times, the Veterans Associations at all levels in the province have always upheld the tradition of "Uncle Ho's soldiers," promoting charitable activities and mobilizing cadres and members to contribute to the "Comradeship Fund" to support the construction and repair of houses for veterans with particularly difficult circumstances, contributing to improving the lives of members...

Joyful in new homes

Welcoming us into her spacious, renovated single-story house, spanning over 60 square meters, veteran Le Thi Kim Thu from Zone 3, Vinh Lai Commune, Lam Thao District, emotionally shared: “I am very grateful to the Veterans Association at all levels for their concern and financial support, helping members in difficult circumstances like me to have the opportunity to build and repair houses to stabilize our lives. Three years have passed, but the joy in me remains as strong as it was in the beginning…”

It is known that veteran Le Thi Kim Thu, 66 years old, currently lives alone, frequently suffers from illness and disease, and is no longer able to work or afford to repair her dilapidated house. In August 2021, with the support of 40 million VND from the Veterans Association at all levels, along with the help of family members, association members, and local people, veteran Le Thi Kim Thu finally had the funds and resources to repair her house, making it sturdy and comfortable to live in. The care and support from the Association at all levels and from her comrades have given veteran Le Thi Kim Thu the motivation and encouragement to overcome her illness and have a better life.

Veteran Dao Van Thanh, born in 1959, residing in Mat 1 area, Van Mieu commune, Thanh Son district, was wounded while on duty at the 345th Division in Lao Cai province, resulting in severe vision loss in one eye. After being discharged from the army and returning to his hometown to start a family, despite his efforts to overcome his pain and work alongside his wife to support the family, they could only barely cover their living expenses and their children's education. The family had to live in a makeshift house made of wood with a tarpaulin roof. In 2023, thanks to the attention and support of various levels of government, local authorities, the Veterans Association, and the help of relatives, the family of veteran Dao Van Thanh was able to build a new house with an area of approximately 80 square meters, costing nearly 300 million VND, thus eliminating their worries during storms and heavy rain.

These are just two of hundreds of war veterans in the province who have received support from various levels of government, organizations, and the Veterans' Association to build and repair their homes. Through the "Comradeship Housing" program, the Veterans' Association at all levels is increasingly affirming its role and position in caring for the material and spiritual lives of its members, contributing to the successful implementation of poverty reduction programs and the elimination of dilapidated housing in the province.

A support system for members in need.

Over the years, the "Comradeship House Construction Support Program" has become a practical and deeply humane activity. To further enhance the program's effectiveness and better care for the lives of poor and disadvantaged war veterans, the provincial-level War Veterans Association continues to promote and encourage cadres and members to actively participate in contributing to the fund. The provincial War Veterans Association directs its grassroots branches to regularly understand the thoughts and aspirations of war veterans; survey the housing situation and living conditions of war veterans to propose and promptly implement measures to provide timely support, contributing additional funds to help build and repair houses for members in accordance with regulations, thus helping those in need of housing to stabilize their lives.

It is difficult to fully express the joy and happiness of the veteran families who have received support in building and repairing their homes. These "Comradeship Houses" not only provide a roof over the heads of disadvantaged veteran families but also embody the compassion, empathy, and sharing spirit of the soldiers of Uncle Ho. Over many years of implementation, the "Comradeship House" support program has helped realize the dream of secure housing, becoming a source of both material and spiritual support for many veterans, fostering confidence and motivation, helping them to improve their lives, actively engage in production, and become increasingly involved with the Veterans' Association. This has enhanced the role and position of the Veterans' Association in caring for the lives and ensuring the rights of its members.

Thanks to effective mobilization efforts, the Association has attracted many organizations, units, businesses, philanthropists, and a large number of members to support it in various ways. Over the past five years, the Provincial Veterans Association and its branches at the grassroots level have provided financial assistance for the construction and repair of "Comradeship Houses" for nearly 300 veterans and meritorious individuals with particularly difficult circumstances, helping them to have stable housing, with a total value exceeding 15.9 billion VND.

Colonel Ha Ba Linh - Vice Chairman of the Provincial Veterans Association affirmed: The activities of supporting and assisting in the construction of "Comradeship Houses" are deeply humane acts, demonstrating the tradition of mutual support and compassion of the nation. In the coming time, the Provincial Veterans Association will continue to promote and widely disseminate the good meaning of the program, while implementing the Fund's activities to all levels of the Association and all members in the province; ensuring the effective support, management and use of the "Comradeship Fund," so that more houses of compassion are donated, contributing to better care for the lives of veterans in the province...
