(To Quoc) - On the evening of November 7th, the Opening Ceremony of the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival (HANIFF VII) took place at the Ho Guom Theater, Hanoi.


Attending the event were Mr. Ta Quang Dong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism , Head of the Steering Committee of the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival; Ms. Dinh Thi Mai - Deputy Head of the Central Propaganda Department, Deputy Head of the Film Festival Steering Committee; Ms. Vu Thu Ha - Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee, Co-Head of the Film Festival Steering Committee; and numerous guests, domestic and international artists.

With the slogan "Creative Cinema - Taking Flight," the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival took place from November 7-11 in Hanoi. The event was directed by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Hanoi People's Committee; the Cinema Department chaired the event, in collaboration with the Hanoi Department of Culture and Sports and other relevant agencies and units.

In his opening remarks at the festival, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong, Head of the Film Festival Steering Committee, emphasized: This year's Hanoi International Film Festival, with the slogan "Cinema: Creativity - Taking Flight," organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in coordination with the Hanoi People's Committee, holds special significance as it coincides with the solemn celebration of the 70th anniversary of the liberation of Hanoi and the entire country. This is a crucial historical event for the Vietnamese people, an opportunity to honor the enduring values ​​of history, traditional culture, and the unique beauty of Hanoi, a city with a thousand years of civilization.

With 117 films selected for competition categories, including the World Cinema Panorama, German Cinema Focus, and Contemporary Vietnamese Films, the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival attracted participation from 51 film industries from various countries and territories. The festival showcased diverse genres of feature films, documentaries, and animation, presenting audiences with global issues, diverse aspects of social life, as well as the unique beauty, customs, and traditions of each nation around the world.

According to Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong, the Hanoi International Film Festival has been held six times, and this seventh edition is an important event for Vietnamese cinema, continuing to open up opportunities for international cooperation, helping Vietnamese filmmakers meet, exchange, and learn from international directors, producers, and film artists, while also accessing advanced filmmaking trends and technologies to serve the production of high-quality films. The film festival is also an opportunity for professionals worldwide to meet, interact, and cooperate through high-quality professional activities.

Besides film screenings and workshops, the Film Festival and Project Market contribute to developing young talent and providing high-quality human resources for the Vietnamese film industry. The Film Festival also serves as an opportunity to showcase Vietnam as an attractive destination for international film crews with its unique and distinctive filming locations.

"It can be seen that the Hanoi International Film Festival is not only a unique cultural event but also contributes to promoting the sustainable development of Vietnam's film industry, helping Vietnamese cinema affirm its position on the world map and leave its mark in international integration. This is also a political and artistic activity that concretizes the guidelines of the Communist Party of Vietnam on building an advanced culture rich in national identity, contributing to preparing the best mindset for the nation's rise in this new era," Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong affirmed.

In her welcoming remarks, Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha stated that the city is honored to partner with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism in organizing the Hanoi International Film Festival 2024. Hanoi – a UNESCO Creative City and the capital of beautiful Vietnam – is ready to contribute to the overall success of the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival in 2024.

Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Vu Thu Ha emphasized: Hanoi, the capital city with a thousand years of history, a heroic city, a city for peace, a creative city, with a history spanning over 1,000 years, possesses a rich and diverse cultural heritage, a place where artistic talents converge, crystallize, and shine, a place that nurtures and promotes cultural creativity to produce unique cultural products.

Following the Central Committee's directive on building and developing Vietnamese culture and people to meet the requirements of sustainable national development, in recent years the city has focused on developing the cultural industry based on the principle of ensuring harmony between preservation and development, maximizing the potential, strengths, and traditional cultural values ​​with a strong identity, connecting, expanding networks, and strengthening cooperation with international organizations, experienced cities, and reputable countries in the development of the cultural industry. At the same time, it affirms Vietnam and Hanoi as safe, friendly destinations with the capacity to organize large-scale, high-quality events, creating unique cultural events and products that build the brand of the capital and Vietnam on the international stage.

The opening ceremony was impressive and spectacular, featuring traditional art performances interspersed with lyrical songs about Hanoi and modern, vibrant, and captivating songs that appealed to young people. In addition, the stage recreated an ancient and poetic Hanoi with Khue Van Cac, the Old Quarter, and especially the flower vendors and flower carts, showcasing a unique beauty characteristic of the capital in autumn.

The 7th Hanoi International Film Festival features 117 films from 51 countries and territories, including the United States, France, Germany, Sweden, the Russian Federation, Denmark, Norway, China, Japan, and more.

The competition included 10 feature films: 9 feature films from foreign countries: Switzerland, the Russian Federation, Belgium, Sweden, Germany, Estonia, South Korea, Iran, and India; and 1 feature film from Vietnam, "Once Upon a Love Story" (directed by Trinh Dinh Le Minh).

The competition features 19 short films, including 11 foreign films from Colombia, China, Iran, Serbia, Cambodia, the United States, South Korea, Japan, and Greece, and 8 Vietnamese films encompassing documentary, animation, and feature films.

Besides the feature films and short films in competition, the Film Festival will also introduce many films to domestic and international audiences, including: 7 films in the German Cinema Focus program; 38 films in the World Cinema Panorama program; 34 films in the Contemporary Vietnamese Film program, including feature films, documentaries, and animated films; 9 films in the Vietnamese Film program celebrating the 70th anniversary of the Liberation of Hanoi (October 10, 1954 - October 10, 2024)...

Leading up to the opening ceremony, November 7th saw several exciting events, including: the opening ceremony of the Film Project Market; the opening of the exhibition "Vietnam's Heritage Through Cinematic Films"; and the opening screening of the 7th Hanoi International Film Festival featuring the new film by director Trinh Dinh Le Minh - "Once Upon a Love Story," along with a Q&A session with the film crew.

As part of the film festival's activities, two workshops were held on the themes "Focus on German Cinema" and "Developing Film Production Exploring Historical Themes and Adaptations from Literary Works".

The films participating in the Festival will be screened at 3 cinema complexes: National Cinema Center (87 Lang Ha, Dong Da, Hanoi); BHD Star Cineplex (8th floor Vincom Shopping Center, 2 Pham Ngoc Thach, Dong Da, Hanoi); CGV Mipec Tower (5th floor Mipec Tower, 229 Tay Son, Dong Da, Hanoi).
