Upon learning of the passing of Princess Bajrakitiyabha of Thailand, on June 15th, General Secretary and President To Lam sent a message of condolences to King Maha Vajiralongkorn and the Thai Royal Family.
On June 12, the Royal Office of Thailand announced that Princess Bajrakitiyabha Narendiradebyavati, also known as Krom Luang Rajasarini Siribajra Mahavajrarajadhida, had passed away at the age of 47 after years in a coma due to severe heart complications.
The Guardian reported that the princess, often known by her affectionate nickname “Princess Bha,” is the eldest daughter of the King of Thailand, Maha Vajiralongkorn. She fell into critical condition in December 2022 after experiencing cardiovascular complications and has since been in a coma.
According to announcements from the Thai Royal Family, the princess's health has deteriorated significantly recently due to multiple organ infections. In early May, the palace stated that doctors were unable to stabilize her irregular heartbeat.
On the government side, Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul expressed his condolences on the Princess's passing, describing her as a beloved member of the Thai Royal Family whose contributions to public service inspired the entire nation.
In a televised address following the royal announcement, Anutin said the princess was admired for her “outstanding abilities as a legal scholar, diplomat , and social activist,” and praised her significant contributions to Thai society.
Born in 1978, Princess Bajrakitiyabha is a highly educated individual, holding a PhD from Cornell University (USA). Throughout her career, she has held numerous positions within the Thai judicial system, served as Ambassador to Austria, and as a Goodwill Representative for the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC). She has also been involved in many activities promoting the rights of female prisoners.
King Vajiralongkorn had seven children. Only a few of them held royal titles, including Princess Sirivannavari and Prince Dipangkorn. By royal decree, the Royal Office will hold the funeral with the highest honors and ceremonies in accordance with royal tradition.
