When courage is put to the test.
Recalling that moment, Major Bui Quang Lan Anh gently shared: “Each suspect has a different background, psychology, and approach. To find the truth, you must first understand the person.” For her, investigation is not just about gathering evidence or responding in the interrogation room. It is also a process of patiently peeling back layers of information, so that ultimately the truth is revealed through both evidence and understanding.
Lan Anh's desire to join the police force began very early, stemming from her father. She vividly remembers him eating dinner when he heard about a fire, immediately abandoning his meal to rush out and help fight the flames. When he returned, his clothes were stained with dirt, his feet bleeding, but there was no hesitation or regret on his face.

It was that humble image that instilled in young Lan Anh the belief that contributing to the community is something to be proud of. When her family learned that their daughter wanted to become a police officer, they repeatedly advised against it, understanding the hardships and pressures of the job, especially for a woman, but she remained steadfast in her choice.
"I don't think I'm doing a special job; I simply want to contribute in a position I believe is meaningful." That belief became the driving force behind her persistent growth in a challenging work environment.
If we liken a criminal case to a large painting, then the process of synthesizing the information is like piecing together thousands of seemingly disparate pieces into a unified whole. The statements of the suspects, collected documents, expert opinions, electronic data, and reports from various task forces… all need to be compared, analyzed, and placed in a logical context to support the investigation team's assessment. This is the area in which Major Bui Quang Lan Anh has dedicated much of her time and effort throughout her career.
A leading comrade once remarked: "Lan Anh's strength lies in her ability to see the big picture from a multitude of different data points. When the pieces are put together correctly, the direction of the investigation becomes clearer."
She believes her job is like being behind the scenes, not directly appearing in front of the lights, but contributing to the smooth and precise operation of the entire system.
Following the particularly serious attack that occurred in Dak Lak in June 2023, Major Bui Quang Lan Anh was assigned to join the task force assisting in the investigation.
A constant stream of information poured in from various sources, while the requirement was to quickly determine the nature of the incident, clarify the roles of each individual, and serve the command and control efforts in a timely and accurate manner. Under these circumstances, systematizing information and building a comprehensive picture of the case became an especially important task.

"The biggest challenge isn't about doing a lot or a little, but ensuring that every piece of information provided is sufficiently substantiated to support the investigation team's subsequent decisions," she said.
Another highlight in Major Bui Quang Lan Anh's career was her involvement in investigating a case related to the National Criminal Record Center and several localities. Faced with a large volume of files and data to process, she and her colleagues focused on clarifying the connections between documents, financial flows, and the actions of the individuals involved. The process of cross-referencing and verification contributed to strengthening the evidence system, helping to determine the true nature of the case.
She always believed: "Testimony is very important, but investigations must be based on evidence. When the evidence is objective and complete, the truth will speak for itself." That is also the professional principle she always upholds: objectivity, caution, and respect for the law.
Quietly behind the scenes of the cases
The nature of investigative work often forces personal plans to give way to unexpected assignments. Sometimes, just as she's preparing to go home, a phone call opens up a new journey. Over time, she realized that behind every investigator, there needs to be a supportive family who understands and shares the unique challenges of the profession.
"Family is not only a place to return to, but also a source of support that allows me to confidently fulfill my duties. With that understanding, I feel even more compelled to strive to live up to the trust of my loved ones."
Many years of service have brought Major Bui Quang Lan Anh many well-deserved awards. But if asked what is most meaningful, perhaps the answer doesn't lie in the titles. After each case, the file is closed, and the investigator quietly moves on to a new assignment. What remains is not their name, but the truths revealed, the decisions built on evidence and the law, and the people's faith in the fairness and impartiality of justice.
That is precisely the journey that Major Bui Quang Lan Anh has chosen to pursue – the journey of someone quietly connecting the pieces, so that each case concludes with the truth revealed and trust preserved.
