Federico Dimarco responds to criticism over his controversial celebration. |
Three days before the crucial match against Bosnia, Federico Dimarco appeared at the press conference with a candid attitude. The Inter Milan defender became the center of attention after a video surfaced showing Italian players celebrating upon learning their decisive opponent would be Bosnia.
He emphasized his respect for all teams, while explaining that his controversial reaction was purely natural. "We were just watching the penalty shootout together and reacting like friends. I didn't mean to disrespect anyone," he said.
The 27-year-old defender said he proactively contacted Edin Dzeko shortly afterward. The two had a close relationship before. Dimarco congratulated his opponent, and Dzeko responded with a simple message: "The stronger team will win."
Responding to criticism that Italy was being arrogant, Dimarco clearly refuted the claims. He reiterated the team's absence from the last two World Cups. "We have no reason to be arrogant. In fact, we still have a lot to prove," he added.
The Inter player also expressed his displeasure at the video being leaked. According to him, it was a private moment, involving his family and children. Making it public has blown the story out of proportion.
Putting aside the controversy, Dimarco focused on the upcoming match. He assessed Bosnia as a formidable opponent, possessing a blend of experience and youth. Italy, according to him, must maintain composure and mental stability if they want to qualify for the World Cup.
