(Baoquanngai.vn) - As one of the localities still facing many difficulties, but thanks to the flexible and creative application of learning and following President Ho Chi Minh's teachings, the Party Committee and government of Son Thuy commune (Son Ha district) have effectively led the implementation of many patriotic emulation movements, contributing to the socio -economic development of the locality.
Their good reputation will last forever.
During his lifetime, President Ho Chi Minh once instructed: "Every good person, every good deed is a beautiful flower, and our entire nation is a beautiful forest of flowers." Deeply imbued with his teachings, on each of his birthdays, cadres, Party members, and people of Son Thuy commune participate in carrying out many practical and meaningful projects and activities as offerings to him.
The Party Secretary of Son Thuy commune, Dinh Van Hoat, couldn't hide his emotion when he called to inform us that a family in the locality had just donated over 1,000 square meters of land to expand the main campus of Son Thuy Kindergarten. The couple are Mr. Truong Tien (60 years old) and Mrs. Nguyen Thi Nga (55 years old), residents of Lang Rao village. Mr. and Mrs. Tien are exemplary figures in the commune for actively participating in the campaign to study and follow the ideology, ethics, and style of Ho Chi Minh. This not only brings joy to the local leaders but also multiplies many good deeds in the community, contributing to spreading a beautiful way of life in society.
To better understand the work of Mr. and Mrs. Tien, we immediately rode our motorbikes to the commune one summer afternoon. A sudden downpour in the forest made the mountain landscape even more desolate. The scene was somber, but the people, officials, and Party members here were all delighted by the noble actions of Mr. and Mrs. Tien in donating 1,000 square meters of land to expand the school. Mr. and Mrs. Tien deserve to be recorded in the local "golden book."

We visited Son Thuy Kindergarten, and Mrs. Nga (Mr. Tien's wife) was also there. At first glance, we were very fond of Mrs. Nga, as she was a kind and gentle woman. When she learned that we were inquiring about her family's work, Mrs. Nga shared information very calmly.
"I want to do something useful for this land, where my husband and I have lived for so many years, with so much affection. I only hope that the children in the commune can have a decent place to study, because they have suffered too many disadvantages. Of course, land is valuable, but the affection is even more precious. That's all I think about," Mrs. Nga said.
Ms. Nga further shared that decades ago, she and her husband packed their bags and moved from their poor rural hometown to the highlands to start a new life. They met and chose Son Thuy commune as their permanent residence. "With a harmonious husband and wife, even the East Sea can be emptied," they diligently worked, saved money, and accumulated capital. Their lives gradually became stable and prosperous. Once they had enough to live on, they decided to acquire more assets. At a time when gold prices were around a few hundred thousand dong per tael (approximately 37.5 grams), instead of buying gold to save, they invested everything in buying a plot of land with frontage on National Highway 24B, next to Son Thuy Kindergarten, one of the most prime locations in the area today.

The New Rural Development movement is spreading everywhere, from provinces and districts to communes, bringing new impetus and promoting socio-economic development in localities. However, Son Thuy commune is facing difficulties in meeting some criteria, including the education criterion. This is one of the important criteria in implementing the National Target Program on New Rural Development. For example, Son Thuy Kindergarten has a cramped campus, insufficient to meet the teaching and learning needs of children. However, resolving this issue is very difficult because the locality lacks available land.
Thus, Mrs. Nga's land came under scrutiny. Day after day, local leaders and some comrades from the Party branch and the village's Fatherland Front came to Mrs. Nga's house to conduct community outreach. "Initially, my husband and I hesitated because we had worked so hard to buy it; it was like a memento of our most difficult times. However, the teachings and sayings of Uncle Ho, when mentioned by the local community, resonated deeply with us – that we should sacrifice personal interests for the common good. Finally, my husband and I agreed and went to the commune to sign the land donation agreement. Great things begin with small things like this, and life becomes better when we know how to give," Mrs. Nga shared.
“The main campus of Son Thuy Kindergarten currently only has 4 classrooms, with no kitchen or administrative office. Teaching and learning conditions are difficult and lacking. The school has to temporarily use one classroom as a place for staff and teachers to work and live. Furthermore, the current size of the school still does not fully meet the needs of the children in the commune. The school's dream is to soon expand its area, receive investment, upgrade, and meet national standards; to be able to accept and teach children aged 24-36 months, as currently the school only accepts children aged 3-5 years. Upon hearing the news that Ms. Nga donated land, the staff, teachers, and parents were all delighted. We would like to express our gratitude for her generosity through practical actions of "teaching well, learning well," contributing to the improvement of education in our homeland.” Teacher TRAN THI QUYNH TRANG |
Party members of the villagers
We visited Ta Bi village, a particularly disadvantaged village in Son Thuy commune, where over 44% of the population are poor households. The people here are undertaking many good deeds to honor President Ho Chi Minh. Most notably, they are commencing construction of the Lang Pho road (connecting to Highway 12) this May. The road is 400 meters long and has a total investment of approximately 1.4 billion VND. Upon completion, it will facilitate travel for dozens of households, connecting them to the lowlands and neighboring districts.
According to Dinh Van Trun, Party Secretary and Head of the Fatherland Front Committee of Ta Bi village, the road is unique because, although short, it is winding and has many steep slopes. The road width is only wide enough for motorbikes. Therefore, achieving the standard width requires the joint efforts and cooperation of the villagers. Five households are located in the affected area. The case of Mr. Dinh Van Duoi (73 years old), whose land is located right at the beginning of the road, is the most difficult. Construction cannot proceed without his consent. The Party committee and local authorities have actively visited his home many times to persuade him, following the principle of "persistence pays off."
Mr. Duỗi spent a long time deliberating, thinking, and struggling with himself before deciding whether or not to donate the land. About 70 square meters of land, while not large, was not small either for a large family with difficult circumstances like his. Most of his children come from poor or near-poor households. However, for the common good of the village, he voluntarily donated it. Seeing him take the lead, the other four households also agreed to donate an additional 70 square meters each. This success acknowledges the great efforts of Mr. Trun, an exemplary Party member in the village.

"In the work of mobilizing land donations for the construction of new rural areas, one of the key lessons learned is the need to creatively apply the lessons learned from President Ho Chi Minh in mass mobilization work. Those involved in mass mobilization must 'think with their minds, observe with their eyes, listen with their ears, walk with their feet, speak with their mouths, and work with their hands,' not just 'talk idly'; they must always put themselves in the people's shoes to understand their thoughts and aspirations. If the people don't agree the first time, they should continue to visit many times. Only when there is no other solution should they stop. Fortunately, the people in Ta Bi village didn't give me the opportunity to give up," Mr. Trun said with a smile.
The study and emulation of President Ho Chi Minh's teachings have truly become ingrained in the lives of all segments of the population in Son Thuy commune. More and more exemplary individuals are participating in the movement to donate land for road and school construction… This will be a great driving force for the commune to achieve the new rural development goals in 2024. Flipping through a notebook containing a complete list of households that have donated land over the years, Mr. Hoat clearly read out the compiled figures from the villages, including: Ta Bi village donated land to build 5 roads with a total length of 750m; Ta Ban village donated land to build 2 roads with a total length of 400m; Ta Com village donated land to build 4 roads with a total length of 500m…
“This result acknowledges the tremendous efforts of the Party Committee, government, Fatherland Front, and mass organizations of Son Thuy commune; in which, the most crucial role is played by the cadres and Party members at the commune and village levels. They are Party members of the villagers, always closely following the documents and directives of the higher levels; concretizing the study and emulation of Uncle Ho's teachings on mass mobilization work in accordance with the local reality. Many cadres and Party members have also pioneered in donating land, setting an example for the people, such as Mr. Trun who donated land twice to build two roads in Ta Bi village,” Mr. Hoat emphasized.

Leaving the highlands as the rain stopped, we could never forget the warm handshakes of the Party Secretary of Son Thuy commune, Dinh Van Hoat. It was compelling evidence of the strong connection between the Party's will and the people's hearts. The people of the highlands are truly precious; although their lives are still impoverished, and they lack food and clothing, they are still willing to sacrifice personal interests to join hands and contribute to the cause of educating people and building a prosperous and beautiful homeland. President Ho Chi Minh once said: "A hundred times easier without the people, but a thousand times harder with the people, everything can be accomplished." We believe that the face of rural Son Thuy commune will be nurtured and transformed by the kindness and affection of its people. And that good reputation will forever be preserved for generations to come…
