Following numerous reports on social media reflecting that many students were absent from school on the morning of January 16th, with many showing symptoms of fever and stomach pain from yesterday until today, an inter-agency inspection team from the People's Committee of Thu Duc City directly visited Nguyen Hien Primary School in An Phu Ward, Thu Duc City to inspect and verify the situation.

According to information obtained by Thanh Nien Newspaper reporters, the inspection team that arrived at the school at 10:00 AM today, January 16th, included Mr. Nguyen Van Khuon, Head of the Health Department of the Thu Duc City People's Committee. Also present were representatives from the Thu Duc City Department of Education and Training; representatives from the Thu Duc City Health Center; representatives from the An Phu Ward People's Committee; and the An Phu Ward Health Station. Representing the parents was Mr. Bui Le Quoc Bao, Head of the Parent-Teacher Association. Representing Nguyen Hien Primary School was Mr. Nguyen Kim Thanh, the Principal.

According to the inspection team's report, at the time of the visit, the school's administration and representatives of the parent-teacher association stated that they had received information that 24 students were absent from school on January 16th due to fever and stomach aches. The administration of Nguyen Hien Primary School stated that they had verified the 24 cases of students requesting leave. Currently, the students' health is stable, and no cases have been hospitalized.

The inspection team requested that the school continue to monitor the students who have requested leave of absence and promptly inform the People's Committee of An Phu Ward and the People's Committee of Thu Duc City if any students show unusual signs.

On the afternoon of January 16th, in an interview with a reporter from Thanh Nien Newspaper, a professional staff member in Thu Duc City, Ho Chi Minh City, stated: "The 24 students who were absent from school on the morning of January 16th each had different symptoms; some had fever, some had headaches, and some had stomachaches. None of them required hospitalization. Currently, their health is normal."

The official also stated: "The school has over 1,560 students. 24 students were absent on the morning of January 16th. The students experiencing stomach aches and fevers were scattered across different classes, not concentrated in any one class. Some students had fevers and stomach aches, but they were not among those who had lunch at the school yesterday, January 15th. The remaining students also ate the school's lunch program, but their health was completely normal. We have inspected food samples and checked all stages of the school's lunch program operation at Nguyen Hien Primary School, and found everything to be in order. It can be concluded that the reason for the students' absence was not due to food poisoning from the school's lunch program on January 15th."

This professional also noted: "During this transitional season, the weather is unpredictable, making children susceptible to colds, coughs, fevers, etc. Parents should take precautions to protect their children, dress them warmly, ensure they eat safe and hygienic food, and avoid letting them eat snacks sold outside the school gates."

Also this afternoon (January 16), the Head of the Parent-Teacher Association of Nguyen Hien Primary School sent a notice to the parent-teacher associations of the 35 classes in the school.

The announcement included the following passage: "This morning, the school's parent-teacher association, in coordination with the school's management board, the Department of Education and Training of Thu Duc City, and working directly with a delegation including: the Department of Health of Thu Duc City, the Police of Thu Duc City, the People's Committee of An Phu Ward, the An Phu Ward Health Center, and the An Phu Ward Health Station, verified that the children's stomach aches and fevers were not due to food from the school meal on January 15, 2024."

At the same time, the head of the parent-teacher association of Nguyen Hien Primary School also requested that parents refrain from buying food and drinks from street vendors in front of the school gate. The People's Committee of the ward will take note of these issues, decisively address them, and prohibit street vending in front of Nguyen Hien School in the future.
