The event is part of the Ho Chi Minh City Literature and Arts Days series of activities, aiming to summarize 50 years of literature and arts in Ho Chi Minh City after the country's reunification.

Amidst the most brutal years of the war, the R Liberation Performing Arts Troupe ( thuộc the Central Propaganda Department of the Southern Region) was established.

Despite being only 15 years old since its formation in 1960, officially established on February 15, 1961, until the great victory of Spring 1975, the Liberation Performing Arts Troupe R made a significant contribution to the glorious victory of the nation.

According to Le Minh Quoc, the author of the book "Liberation Performing Arts Troupe R - A Historical Milestone," this performing arts troupe was a pioneering force in the resistance of Southern Vietnam.

They were both artists and soldiers, ready to fight and sacrifice. During the resistance war, they created valuable works of art to boost morale and contribute to the propaganda, training, and development of artists and writers.

The history of the troupe is marked by significant contributions from Vietnamese expatriates in Cambodia such as: musician Pham Minh Tuan, musician Dao Thang, musician Phan Thao; and cadres who relocated to the North: playwrights Pham Ngoc Truyen and Ngoc Cung, director Bich Lam;

Northern reinforcements: artists Ngo Y Linh, Thai Ly, singer To Lan Phuong; Saigon city center: artists Bay Luong, Quoc Hoa, actor Tran My Long; Y4 performing arts troupe: artist Phi Yen; Southern provinces: artist Muoi Don; musician Hoang Dung, playwright Thanh Hien...

After reunification, the artistic seeds sown by the Liberation Army's Performing Arts Troupe R continued to flourish, becoming a solid foundation for the formation and growth of major art units in Ho Chi Minh City such as: the Bong Sen National Folk Music and Dance Theatre, the Tran Huu Trang Cai Luong Theatre, and the Ho Chi Minh City Drama Theatre.

In the preface to the book, musician Pham Minh Tuan argues that the Liberation Performing Arts Troupe R was an artistic unit that fought the enemy without gunfire, only through music, singing, dancing, poetry, and dialogue...

"The book recalls so many events, so many years spent sleeping in the jungle, so many times crawling through tunnels, eating 'steamed rice to survive,' overcoming 'bare plains where dogs yawn,' 'sharing a cigarette'... They were also so innocent, walking barefoot on newly liberated asphalt roads or crossing the Mekong River in broad daylight under enemy gunfire," Mr. Tuan shared.
