One day at the end of the year, we traveled down to the Miệt Thứ region to Mr. Hoàng's house – a place with a unique miniature garden. Seeing is believing; indeed, the garden was lush and green, with meticulously crafted miniature landscapes, and the trees, animals, and objects arranged harmoniously and beautifully.
Visiting Mr. Hoang's ornamental garden, we were amazed not only by the sheer number and variety of plants, but also by the gate adorned with six intertwined dragons, stretching over 60 meters and incredibly lifelike. Few would imagine that this humble farmer could possess such skillful hands. Mr. Hoang explained that initially, growing ornamental plants was just a hobby to beautify his yard and create a cool, green space, but gradually, his passion grew over the years. "After days of working in the fields and shrimp farms, in the evenings when I have free time, I go to the garden to prune the plants, and that helps me feel more relaxed," Mr. Hoang said.
His garden wasn't large, but it was harmoniously and vividly arranged. Lush green ornamental plants intertwined with miniature landscapes he created himself, such as phoenixes, swans, eagles, grass dogs, elephants, horses, tables and chairs, a sofa set with a teapot and cups… All of it evoked a familiar village scene, close to the life of a farmer.
According to Mr. Hoang, the ornamental plant used to create the animal and object shapes is the dwarf flowering tree (Mai Chieu Thuy). Initially, these trees grew naturally as hedges, but he then painstakingly pruned them. Without formal training, Mr. Hoang watched many television programs to learn about planting, caring for, and shaping them. At first, he created simple shapes, but as his skills improved, he moved on to making more complex objects and shapes. "To ensure each animal has its own posture and facial expression requires meticulous work. First, you have to create a sturdy aluminum frame that closely resembles the original, then plant the flowers and prune them to fit the frame. It takes me more than a year to create a complete piece," Mr. Hoang shared.
Mr. Hoang's small garden attracts many locals and even people from other places who come to visit, learn about plant care, and create miniature landscapes. For Mr. Hoang, the greatest joy isn't the praise, but the fact that his small garden has become a place where people can stop, relax, and find peace amidst the hustle and bustle of life.
| "Mr. Hoang's ornamental garden model not only adds an impressive touch to the rural road in Vinh Binh commune, creating a green, clean, and beautiful environment... but also contributes to the successful implementation of the criteria for building new rural areas in the locality," said Huynh Phat Trien, Secretary of the Tan Phong Hamlet Party Branch. |
