Wolves played terribly. |
Following their 0-2 defeat to Brentford at home at Molineux on the evening of December 20th, Wolves officially only have a meager 2 points after the first 17 rounds, the lowest figure in the history of English football.
Wolves, along with Newport County in the 1970/71 Fourth Division and Sheffield United in the 2020/21 Premier League, are the three teams with the lowest points total before Christmas in English football competitions.
However, Sheffield United had only played 14 matches in 2020 before Christmas. The defeat against Brentford also extended Wolves' losing streak to 11 consecutive matches (including other competitions).
In the Premier League alone, they lost 10 consecutive matches, setting a dismal club record and one of the longest losing streaks in the league's history.
With only 2 points after 17 rounds, Wolves are bottom of the Premier League table and almost certainly relegated. Under manager Rob Edwards (recently appointed after Vítor Pereira was sacked), Wolves have yet to find a way out of their predicament.
