Innovating teacher training

At the end of May, Thai Nguyen University of Education held its graduation ceremony and awarded bachelor's degrees to nearly 400 students in the second batch of 2024. Upon receiving her degree, future teacher Nguyen Thuy Linh emotionally shared: “During our four years of university, my classmates and I were guided by our teachers, equipped with knowledge and pedagogical methods to confidently step onto the giảng platform. Our teachers are shining examples of dedication, passion, and responsibility towards their students, which we will follow throughout our careers as educators.”

At the ceremony, Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Xuan Truong, the school's principal, praised the achievements of the students, thanked the parents for their trust in entrusting their children to the school over the years, and urged them to apply the knowledge they have acquired in university to practice, striving to become teachers who meet the requirements of the education profession and further enrich the glorious history of the school over the past nearly 60 years.

As a member institution of Thai Nguyen University, Thai Nguyen University of Education has nearly 300 lecturers and teachers, including 186 with professor, associate professor, and doctoral degrees. It is assigned to enroll approximately 1,000 students annually, with a training scale of around 3,000 to 3,500 students, including nearly 3,600 students in 2023 across all levels from preschool to high school.

Professor, Dr. Pham Hong Quang, Secretary of the Party Committee and Chairman of the Council of Thai Nguyen University, assessed: “To date, Thai Nguyen University of Education is one of the few universities with 100% of its bachelor's degree programs in education accredited. Generations of students trained by the university are strong in their professional skills, dedicated to teaching, and contribute to the cause of education and training in the midland and mountainous regions of Northern Vietnam…”

Over the past period, the school has continuously improved the capacity of its teaching staff through solutions such as sending many lecturers to conduct research, attend training courses on the 2018 general education program; sending teachers to gain practical experience, and collaborating with other schools to conduct scientific research on the content of the new general education program.

The university has built and maintained an effective learning community among faculty members and general education teachers to share teaching experiences. The university has strengthened the use of active teaching methods and techniques, applied information technology, guided students in developing e-learning lessons, and sent students for practical training at other schools. As a result, graduates from Thai Nguyen University of Education possess the teaching skills and abilities to develop competencies upon graduation.

Associate Professor, Dr. Mai Xuan Truong, Rector of Thai Nguyen University of Education, shared: “Along with investing in facilities and institutions serving teaching, research, and learning, making them increasingly spacious and modern, we have developed lesson plans and teacher training programs to meet the requirements of the 2018 general education curriculum reform. At the same time, we have reformed testing and evaluation methods to supplement appropriate teaching methods, aiming to train students and trainees with solid professional skills. Therefore, most students are employed after graduation and are highly valued by local authorities.”

To date, Thai Nguyen University of Education has trained over 3,200 core general education teachers and more than 20,000 general education teachers for provinces, especially those in the midland and mountainous regions of Northern Vietnam. This has made a significant contribution to improving the quality of education in these localities.
