The Southeast Asian Football Championship, commonly known as the AFF Cup, is about to kick off, attracting the attention of a large number of fans. The Vietnamese national team, the reigning runner-up, is drawing attention with the recent call-up of naturalized player Nguyen Xuan Son from Nam Dinh FC, and coach Kim Sang-sik's goal of reaching the final.

According to the previous AFF Cup draw results, the Vietnamese national team is in Group B along with Indonesia, Philippines, Myanmar, and Laos, while Group A includes defending champions Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Cambodia, and Timor Leste.
The official AFF Cup schedule has also been released. Accordingly, the Vietnamese national team will play their opening match at 8 PM on December 9th against Laos, the weakest team in Group B. Group A will play one day earlier, with Thailand facing Timor Leste, the weakest team in the group. Unless there are major surprises, both the Vietnamese and Thai teams are expected to secure three points on their opening day.

AFF Cup 2024
In the second round of matches, the Vietnamese team faces the biggest challenge in Group A against Indonesia (8 PM on December 15th), while Thailand plays Malaysia (December 14th). On December 18th, the Vietnamese team plays their next match in Group B, against the Philippines away from home, while Thailand plays Singapore in this round. In the final group stage match, the Vietnamese team plays Myanmar at 8 PM on December 21st.
The semi-finals of the AFF Cup are played in a two-legged format. Semi-final 1 (first leg) will take place at 8 PM on December 26th between the runner-up of Group B and the winner of Group A (the second leg will take place at 8 PM on December 29th). Semi-final 2 (first leg) will take place at 8 PM on December 27th between the runner-up of Group A and the winner of Group B (the second leg will take place at 8 PM on December 30th). Similarly, the AFF Cup final between the two winners of the semi-finals will also be played in a two-legged format (first leg at 8 PM on January 2nd, 2025) and a two-legged format (8 PM on January 5th).
The Vietnamese national team has just returned home after a beneficial 10-day training camp in South Korea. “I see that the players' skills are getting better and better, and the team's tactics and techniques have also improved significantly. The Vietnamese players have a very strong passion for football, as well as strong willpower and motivation. I am pleased with that,” commented coach Kim Sang Sik, while also setting the goal of leading the team to the final of the 2024 AFF Cup.
