Recently, the term "Halal" has been mentioned more frequently in forums on export, trade, and product development. While previously Halal was considered a relatively unfamiliar market for many Vietnamese businesses, now, with the trend of integration and the expansion of Islamic markets, more and more businesses are beginning to pay attention to the strict yet promising standards of this market. According to experts, Halal is not simply a certification for food but a system of standards encompassing the entire production chain, from raw materials, processing, preservation, transportation to distribution. Meeting these standards not only facilitates access to the Halal market but also enhances competitiveness in many other demanding markets.
With its abundant raw materials, distinctive agricultural and aquatic products, and developed tourism industry, Khanh Hoa is considered to have many favorable conditions to participate in the Halal product chain. Recognizing this potential, the province is gradually orienting the development of advantageous industries according to Halal standards, linked with improving quality, building value chains, and expanding export markets. Accordingly, many distinctive products such as bird's nest, seafood, goat, sheep, sea grapes, aloe vera, along with agricultural products and OCOP products, are identified as promising product groups for accessing the Halal market in the near future.
In line with this trend, many businesses in the province have proactively researched and gradually prepared the conditions to access Halal standards, seeing this as an opportunity to expand markets and enhance product value. Mr. Nguyen Quang Duy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of DT GROUP, said that for many years, the company has exported products to many countries and has noticed an increasing demand for Halal-certified products, especially in the Middle East and Southeast Asia.

Mr. Duy stated: "Consumer trends are changing very rapidly. Customers are not only concerned about product quality but also demand that production processes meet international standards, including Halal. This is an opportunity for businesses to expand their markets, but it also requires synchronized investment from raw material sources and production processes to quality management and traceability systems. Halal is not simply a certification on product packaging but a standardization process of the entire production chain. By meeting these standards, businesses not only have more export opportunities but also enhance brand value and build trust with international customers."
Not only agricultural and seafood processing businesses, but also many food service establishments see opportunities from the development of the Halal market. For products already familiar in the culinary culture of Islamic countries, such as goat and lamb meat, meeting Halal standards is considered a crucial condition for expanding the market and serving customer groups with specific requirements. Mr. Vo Thanh Vuong, owner of Cuu O Vuong restaurant (Phan Rang ward), said: "Goat and lamb meat are two of the most commonly consumed foods in many Muslim countries. Therefore, developing raw materials and supply chains that meet Halal standards will open up many opportunities for businesses and enterprises to invest in the deep processing of Khanh Hoa's unique goat and lamb raw materials. Currently, the demand for Halal-certified food is increasing, not only in Muslim countries but also among international tourists. For food businesses like ours, Halal-certified raw materials will help diversify services, build customer trust, and enhance competitiveness. If the locality can establish a production, slaughter, and supply chain for lamb meat according to Halal standards, this will be an important foundation for both developing the domestic market and aiming for export."
Raising standards to conquer the global market.
To create a systematic foundation for the development of the Halal market, the Provincial People's Committee issued Plan No. 7561 to implement Government Decree No. 127/2026 on quality management and policies for the development of Halal products and services; and Decision No. 1801, dated May 29, 2026, promulgating the Project on Developing Goat and Sheep Products into Halal Products in Khanh Hoa Province by 2030. Accordingly, the province focuses on disseminating information, supporting organizations, individuals, and businesses in accessing Halal standards, building production and traceability chains, promoting trade, developing Halal tourism, and forming an ecosystem of Halal products and services associated with the unique advantages of the locality.

Mr. Vo Van Cong, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment, stated that developing Halal products is not only about meeting the requirements of a new market but also an opportunity for the agricultural sector to improve production quality in a modern, sustainable, and internationally integrated direction. Khanh Hoa has many characteristic agricultural and aquatic products such as sea grapes, bird's nests, seafood, aloe vera, and OCOP products with the potential to develop according to Halal standards. To effectively exploit this market, it is crucial to build stable raw material areas, strictly control production processes, ensure food safety, and enhance traceability. The Department of Agriculture and Environment will continue to coordinate with relevant departments, agencies, and localities to guide businesses, cooperatives, and producers in applying advanced production processes, forming a linked chain from raw material areas to processing and consumption. This not only meets the requirements of the Halal market but also contributes to increasing the added value, competitiveness, and sustainability of the province's agricultural and aquatic products.
In reality, developing Halal products is not an easy path. Meeting standards regarding raw materials, production processes, traceability, and quality management systems requires businesses to invest in finance, human resources, and technology. However, in return, it offers the opportunity to enter a large market with stable purchasing power and high added value. From its advantages in distinctive products such as bird's nest, seafood, sea grapes, and asparagus to livestock products like goats and sheep, Khanh Hoa is facing the opportunity to transform its local specialties into brands capable of competing in the global market. When each product not only meets Halal standards but also high standards of quality, safety, and traceability, the value of agricultural products, food, and the image of the province will be elevated on the international export map.
