Focus efforts on key projects.

After the Lunar New Year in 2026, agencies, units, and workers at key construction projects in the province are busy again. The atmosphere of urgent construction and determination to complete the goals in the new year is evident at every dock and construction site.

Bustling activity at the materials dock.

These days, along the Tam Ngan canal, from Tri Ton commune to O Lam commune, dozens of barges are anchored, waiting to load materials. After the Tet holiday, the vessels are rushing to the loading dock to supply stone for key construction projects in the province. Leaning back in his driver's seat, Mr. Nguyen Van Dua, a resident of Vinh An commune, said he works as a laborer earning over 7 million VND per month. After nearly 10 days off for Tet, he returned to the loading dock with high spirits. "The barge arrived yesterday and is waiting for a driver. When it's our turn, we'll transport the stone to the highway construction site. As laborers, we're happy to have a trip," Mr. Dua shared.

Having just docked to rest, Mr. Phan Van Dung, a resident of O Mon ward, Can Tho city, enthusiastically invited passengers onto his barge for a chat. Having worked on the waterways for over 40 years, he said that this year he returned to his hometown on the 24th of the 12th lunar month, enjoying a full Tet holiday before returning to work. “This trip I’m transporting 480 cubic meters of stone for the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway. If transporting within the province, it takes two days to return, but for longer trips it can take 7-10 days. Two to three trips a month provide a decent income,” Mr. Dung said.

Along the more than 1km-long canal, the sounds of excavators, rocks being dumped into barges, and people calling out to each other create a vibrant scene of labor right from the beginning of the year. From here, materials will be distributed to various construction sites, ensuring the progress of the project.

Ensuring supply

Over the past period, Antraco Joint Venture Company Limited has strived to ensure the supply of stone for key projects, especially prioritizing component project 1 of the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway, phase 1.

The allocated volume for component project 1 in An Giang province is over 1.599 million of stone; component projects 2, 3, and 4 are allocated 353,091 , 490,000 , and 655,000 respectively. In addition, the unit also supplies materials for the upgrade project of the Lo Te - Rach Soi route; the construction project of the regional connecting route from Tan Chau ward to Chau Doc ward; and the emergency upgrade and expansion project of provincial road 948, part of the national defense, security, and border and ethnic minority route, phase 2…

However, some projects, despite having been allocated a certain volume of materials, are experiencing delays in transporting the stone to the construction sites. Therefore, businesses hope that the Department of Agriculture and Environment and the project owners will urge and develop a specific schedule for material transportation, ensuring that the registered volume is met, avoiding congestion and putting pressure on the supply of materials from the quarries.

In parallel with ensuring the supply of materials, the construction units are also increasing manpower and machinery to accelerate progress. Lieutenant Colonel Le Xuan Dai - Director of the Truong Son 11 Project Management Board (Truong Son Construction Corporation), said that during the Lunar New Year holiday in 2026, the unit will still maintain 80% of its workforce on the construction site, while also arranging for officers and workers to take turns returning home to celebrate Tet.

Mr. Bui Van Hoang, in charge of the technical aspects of the initial section of the expressway (a contract awarded to Truong Son Construction Corporation), shared: “I visited my family from the 29th of Tet until the 2nd day of Tet, then returned to the construction site. Tet was short but meaningful. Every meter of completed work brings more joy because it is the shared achievement of all the workers.”

Even in the midday sun, the sounds of machinery still echoed across the construction site. The construction teams worked continuously and urgently. According to Lieutenant Colonel Le Xuan Dai, the unit is in the final stages of completing package 42, focusing intensely on ensuring both progress and quality. In the coming period, the unit will increase night shifts to accelerate progress, striving to complete the Chau Doc - Can Tho - Soc Trang expressway section through An Giang province by the end of June this year.

From the material depot to the construction site, the spirit of early spring work is spreading. Barges line up leaving the dock, machinery shifts stretch endlessly under the sun and wind… all contributing to the realization of the goal of completing key projects, creating momentum for the province's development in 2026.
