Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thi Lien Huong, Deputy Minister of Health, shared that over the past 15 years of its formation and development, the Cardiovascular Center of E Hospital has successfully completed many tasks assigned by the Party, the State, and the Ministry of Health

Developing from a medical facility that could not perform open-heart surgery, the Cardiovascular Center has grown strongly into a comprehensive and powerful cardiovascular center nationwide, recognized internationally and domestically, and trusted by the people.

The Cardiovascular Center was the first facility in the country to successfully apply endoscopic-assisted and full endoscopic open-heart surgery techniques; it was also the first to apply 3D endoscopy in open-heart surgery and organized numerous scientific seminars related to this topic. The introduction of the interventional cardiology unit in 2013 transformed the center into a complete diagnostic and treatment unit.

In just a few short minutes, the doctor must accurately identify the location of the lesion and make a decision; any delay could prevent the heart from returning to its normal rhythm.

The team of skilled doctors has mastered many advanced techniques in treating complex cardiovascular diseases and has made its mark on the world cardiovascular map. To date, the Cardiovascular Center has affirmed its position and become a trusted medical facility for the public and highly regarded by colleagues.

According to Dr. Phan Thao Nguyen, Deputy Director of E Hospital – in charge of the Cardiovascular Center, the center provides inpatient treatment for 8,000 patients annually, including over 1,300 surgical procedures for heart, vascular, and thoracic diseases. The center routinely implements complex techniques such as Fontan and Glenn procedures, coronary artery bypass grafting, and heart valve replacement in elderly patients with severe heart failure.

Notably, the Center was the first to routinely perform open-heart endoscopic surgery, with the largest number of cases (over 900) and a high success rate of nearly 96%; it has published numerous papers domestically and internationally and transferred this method to other units.

Currently, the Center is the only surgical facility in the country that routinely performs endoscopic heart surgery using a 3D system, with complete endoscopy through incisions smaller than 1.2cm for certain cardiovascular diseases.

The center is currently one of the largest cardiovascular intervention facilities in the country, with over 24,000 cases in both adults and children.

The center is one of the core hospitals transferring technology in the field of cardiology to hospitals in the satellite hospital system under the Ministry of Health's project, such as Bac Giang, Thai Binh, Ha Giang, Yen Bai, etc. The center also cooperates with many international organizations: Okayama University Hospital, Kanazawa, Japan, Clermont Ferrand Hospital, Republic of France, etc.

Over the past 15 years, with the great achievements and contributions of the staff and employees of the Cardiovascular Center, the Party, State, Ministry of Health, and various departments and agencies have awarded: the First-Class Labor Medal (1 individual); the Second-Class Labor Medal (1 individual); Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister (2 individuals); Certificates of Merit from the Minister of Health (25 collectives and 68 individuals); Certificates of Merit from provinces and cities (20 individuals); People's Physician (1 individual); and Excellent Physician (4 individuals).
