Speaking at the Conference on the implementation of the 2024 Production Plan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Truong Hai Group Joint Stock Company ( Thaco ), Mr. Tran Ba Duong affirmed that in 2024, Truong Hai - Chu Lai will begin a new investment and development cycle, forming a new generation of multi-industry industrial ecosystem of Thaco in Chu Lai (Quang Nam) on the basis of industrial management, green development, smart, sustainable and modern.
In its plan, Thaco will invest in many large projects in Chu Lai in 2024, with a total investment capital disbursed in the year of nearly 3,900 billion VND. The total budget contribution in Quang Nam will be about 20,000 billion VND, an increase of 16% compared to 2023.
Thaco continues to make great strides in Chu Lai. When the decision was made to establish the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone in 2003, not many people could imagine how this coastal economic zone would develop. But now, after 21 years, from a land of white sand, Quang Nam has realized its aspiration to turn the Chu Lai Open Economic Zone into a growth engine. And there, a national brand has been formed, named Thaco Truong Hai.
From a factory in the middle of vast white sand, many more factories were built and put into operation with modern technological lines, forming the largest automobile manufacturing and assembly industrial center in Vietnam and among the top in Southeast Asia. Passenger cars, trucks, and buses originating from Chu Lai - Truong Hai have spread throughout the country and abroad, creating the image and economic position of Quang Nam; establishing a national brand in Quang Nam. Thaco Group is the "leading crane" nesting in Quang Nam, the development of this enterprise has a great impact on growth, as it annually contributes the main part to the provincial budget.
Quang Nam province's planning for the period 2021 - 2030, with a vision to 2050, determines: Quang Nam will develop industry towards a circular economy, specialization, and high automation. Promote the development of automobile manufacturing and assembly industry, mechanical, electrical, and electronic products; form a national multi-purpose mechanical and automobile center... These orientations coincide with Thaco's development strategy. And Thaco becomes a pillar enterprise to implement the orientations according to the Government's Planning.
Chairman of Quang Nam Provincial People’s Committee, Mr. Le Tri Thanh affirmed that Thaco Truong Hai is “a big eagle” and the country currently does not have many multi-industry corporations like Truong Hai. Quang Nam Province has such a big “eagle”, so it must nurture and create conditions for the “eagle” to grow, from which other “eagles” will be born.
Currently, 6 corporations under Thaco are gradually forming 6 "eagles" and the province will try to create all supporting conditions, together with Thaco, to form 6 more "eagles".
“The development of Thaco has had a huge impact not only in Quang Nam, but also in the Central Highlands and the Northern region.
Cambodia and Southern Laos, so we must continue to create conditions for Truong Hai to develop more strongly," Mr. Le Tri Thanh affirmed.

Electric gold mine
Another important industrial sector oriented in the Quang Nam Provincial Planning is to promote the development of the Central Electricity Center Project associated with industries using energy and post-gas products in Chu Lai Open Economic Zone, creating new development momentum for the province and the region.
This project is considered a "gold mine" for the two localities of Quang Nam and Quang Ngai.
The Central Electricity Center consists of 4 power plants, with a total capacity of 3,000 MW, using raw materials exploited from the Blue Whale mine. The Prime Minister has approved the planning and is promoting investment preparation.
Published data shows that the Blue Whale Gas-Power Project Chain includes component projects such as the Blue Whale Gas Field Development Project, power plant projects using gas from the Blue Whale gas field (Central Region I, II, Quang Nam province) and Dung Quat I, II and III (Quang Ngai province). It is expected that when put into commercial operation, the 5 power plants in the Blue Whale Gas-Power Project Chain will annually supply the national grid with 23-25 billion kWh of electricity. Preliminary calculations show that the total state budget revenue from this project chain will reach over tens of billions of USD.
The above project, when put into operation, will create a strong breakthrough in economic growth and budget revenue for Quang Nam. Therefore, this locality has prepared all conditions and provided maximum support for partners to survey the sea and land areas in the area where the project is expected to be located. Quang Nam has planned 1,000 hectares of land, adjusted the planning, formed concentrated industrial zones (about 3,000 hectares), and promoted projects using gas products. Ready to hand over clean land when investors implement the project.
According to initial calculations, each year, Quang Nam's budget will have an additional 1 billion USD from this project, creating jobs for 3,000 - 4,000 workers. In July 2023, the People's Committee of Quang Nam province assigned the Management Board of Economic Zones and Industrial Parks to preside over and coordinate with relevant sectors to implement the contents proposed by the Ministry of Industry and Trade on promoting the implementation of the Blue Whale Gas - Power Project Chain.
Not only Quang Nam, Quang Ngai province is also looking forward to the Blue Whale gas-power project chain, because in Dung Quat Economic Zone, 3 projects in the Blue Whale gas-power project chain will be implemented, including Dung Quat I, II, III gas-power projects and a shared infrastructure project for mixed gas turbine power plants. Each project is expected to have a capacity of 750 MW; the total investment of the 3 projects is 2.5 billion USD. Quang Ngai province has also prepared the conditions to implement the project, when the gas supply progress of the upstream project in the Blue Whale gas-power project chain is started...
It is not yet known when the first gas from the Blue Whale field will be brought ashore, but with its promising potential and plans being pushed forward, it is believed that one day, this "gold mine" will be exploited.
