On June 8, the Mediterranean-Europe Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported that an 8.1 magnitude earthquake had been recorded off the coast of Mindanao Island in the Philippines.
The earthquake occurred at 23:37 GMT on June 7th (which is 6:37 AM on June 8th in Vietnam time).
The earthquake's epicenter was located approximately 58km from General Santos City in the Philippines, a city with a population of nearly 680,000, at a depth of 57km.
There have been no reports of casualties or damage following the earthquake so far.
Shortly afterward, Japanese authorities issued tsunami warnings along several Pacific coastal areas following the major earthquake off the coast of the Philippines.
The Japan Meteorological Agency said tsunamis up to 1 meter high are expected in many areas from 11:30 local time (9:30 Hanoi time).
