Ms. Diem Kieu accompanies her child to review history and prepare for the 10th grade entrance exam.
Ms. Diem Kieu in Thoi Lai district shared that her daughter wants to take the entrance exam to a specialized school after high school. Ms. Kieu is concerned that the family's living conditions are far away, and if she goes to school, her daughter will have to rent a room by herself. She is also worried that her daughter's academic performance is somewhat different from that of her friends in the city center, making it difficult to "compete"... However, seeing her daughter following the study schedule every day and showing her love for history by finding documents, books, and asking for additional guidance from teachers... she reconsidered. "Recently, after her efforts, my daughter won third prize in the city-level history competition for excellent students. This is the motivation for her to strive before the entrance exam to grade 10. My daughter said that specialized schools have dormitories; if she passes, she will have a healthy and safe learning and living environment. Seeing my daughter mature in her thinking, my whole family is very reassured, trusts and supports her" - Ms. Kieu said.
Mr. Thanh Hai in O Mon district said that 3 years ago, when his family was choosing a high school for their son, there were many conflicts. Mr. Hai said: “My son excelled in Math and Chemistry. Since middle school, my family has sent him to a preparatory school for exams. My husband and I planned that when he entered high school, he would take a specialized Math or Chemistry exam, as a foundation for him to pursue his dream of passing the medical exam. But when we researched and compared, he changed his mind and wanted to take the exam at another school, leaving my husband and I “unable to react”. My wife was grumpy and forced him to choose, either take the exam at a specialized school or drop out of school”. Mr. Hai had to convince him and the couple spent time listening to his thoughts and wishes. His son confided that, through research, he realized that the school his parents were looking for was not suitable for his abilities and personality. The school he chose had strengths in training in Math and Chemistry; the learning environment was not too stressful. After listening to his son's confession, the couple gradually understood and accepted. Currently, Hai's son's academic performance is very stable, maintaining the title of excellent student for 3 years. Hai's family believes that in the upcoming exam, he will pass the medical exam as he dreamed.
In fact, there are many cases where parents do not pay attention and analyze thoroughly how to choose a school that is suitable for their family circumstances, conditions and their children's learning ability. Some people are too confident about their children's academic achievements; others always think that their children are not good enough, not strong enough to enter key schools...
Ms. Hong Mai in Cai Rang district said: “My son has been good at English since he was young, and has won high prizes in district-level competitions for excellent students. However, when he took the 10th grade entrance exam, choosing English major, he failed with a very low score, which shocked the whole family. Therefore, 3 years ago, when my daughter wanted to take the entrance exam to a key school, I absolutely disagreed, even asserting that she would never pass. Even though my mother did not support her, my daughter still tried hard to study and achieved her wish. Thinking back, I still feel remorseful.” According to Ms. Mai, that year, her son was not outstanding at studying foreign languages. However, after only 3 years of studying in a suitable environment, her daughter made a breakthrough and has now taken the necessary foreign language certificates. Recently, her daughter won a scholarship and will study abroad in Taiwan next August.
A few years ago, Ms. HK also "forced" her child to take the entrance exam to a key school even though she did not like it. After passing the 10th grade exam, after only one semester, Ms. HK's child showed signs of "going downhill", not keeping up with her friends. Her child confided that because the learning environment was too stressful, she tried hard but had difficulty integrating, and was always mentally exhausted. "Gradually, my child became sullen, quiet, and often "locked" herself in her room for hours. Seeing her behavior like that, I knew I was wrong" - Ms. HK shared. To save the situation, Ms. HK applied to transfer her child to another school. The new school had a suitable learning environment, making her child happy and integrating very quickly. Currently, Ms. HK's daughter has graduated from university and has invested in a very successful motel business.
According to many parents who have gone through the journey of accompanying their children to high school as well as the decisive entrance exams, the important thing is to choose a school that is within their ability, creating interest in learning for their children... so that studying and taking exams are not a pressure for both children and parents.
