Green driving force in the "core" area of Phan Thiet

The circle of the street

Located at the intersection of the Ca Ty River and the Con Cha estuary, Thuong Chanh Park, built and operational since 2024, expanded the tourism space of the former Phan Thiet city, creating a unique and beautiful area. Now, this area belongs to Phan Thiet ward, formed by the merger of three wards: Phu Trinh, Binh Hung, and Lac Dao, making this landmark even more special, creating a very close connection for tourists seeking relaxation and exploration in this coastal region of Lam Dong province.

That circle not only includes the Duc Thanh School, where young Nguyen Ai Quoc visited Phan Thiet in the last century to teach before going to Saigon to seek a way to save the country; it also has a water tower marking hundreds of years of history and Vietnamese-Lao friendship, which is being renovated into a green park where tourists can sit and admire the Ca Ty River at high and low tides. Nowhere else is as unique as Phan Thiet ward, which currently has three bridges crossing the river. In the near future, when the coastal road project is implemented, a bridge over the Ca Ty River will appear right at the confluence of the river and the sea, meaning Phan Thiet will have four bridges.

That circle also opens up a colorful space, encompassing cultural and spiritual attractions such as Van Thuy Tu and Ong Pagoda, which tourists have long visited as a way of marking their return to this land; there is the seaport, the starting point for the 56-nautical-mile journey to Phu Quy Island; and the coastal road embracing the two parks of Thuong Chanh and Doi Duong, with many famous hotels and restaurants of old Phan Thiet tourism. From here, a unique culinary culture, imbued with the soul of Phan Thiet, emerges, with cooking methods using seafood caught in the area, known only to the local fishermen.

High-speed boats serve tourists and locals traveling between Phan Thiet and the Phu Quy Special Economic Zone.

Similarly, not every place has a fish market on the scale of Phan Thiet ward. The average engine power of the ward's boats is 212.85 horsepower (HP)/boat out of a total of 340 boats/72,369 HP, indicating that many of them are very large. With fishing yields in two seasons a year, contributing to the marine economy , this also determines the development of trade and services here. When the sea is bountiful and prices are good, all related links in this sector are bustling and vibrant. Conversely, when the sea is unproductive, the opposite happens. Therefore, in recent years, with the addition of tourism to the service sector, the balance of trade and services has been achieved. Focus on mobilizing resources to invest in infrastructure serving the tourism development strategy, especially urban transportation connections; invest in renovating coastal parks and public beaches in a modern and environmentally friendly direction (Thuong Chanh Park beach, Doi Duong Park); improve service quality and diversify tourism products while preserving natural and social environmental hygiene. Coordinate the effective implementation of the Marine Tourism and Sports Center project, and at the same time, promote various forms of tourism promotion and marketing.

Smart cities and smart citizens

The political report of the Phan Thiet Ward Party Committee emphasizes the overall development goal of building Phan Thiet Ward into a smart, modern urban area; with trade and service economy as the main focus, and small-scale industries and marine economy as supporting foundations... Discussing the marine economy, the leaders of Phan Thiet Ward stated: “Besides existing fishing and some processing activities, the ward's marine economy still lacks many elements for comprehensive development, in line with its inherent potential. The reasons stem from both objective and subjective factors. Due to the characteristics of urbanization, expanding the scale of seafood processing in residential areas is not feasible. Meanwhile, fisheries logistics services are still underdeveloped and not yet ready for development as in coastal island areas, such as Phu Quy. Regarding coastal infrastructure, in addition to the projects already invested in, the ward aims to continue supplementing and improving them during the 2025-2030 term to gradually enhance the capacity of the marine economy.”

In fact, with the province's key projects and infrastructure plans underway in the ward, especially the Ca Ty River embankment project (from Duc Thanh Bridge to Ung Van Khiem Street), Phan Thiet ward faces a challenging task in urban planning.

Therefore, in the three breakthrough areas of development, the ward focuses on expanding urban space and beautifying the city. This includes coordinating with relevant provincial departments and agencies to build Phan Thiet ward into a green, clean, and civilized urban area; effectively carrying out compensation and land clearance for key provincial projects in the area; and focusing on urban beautification and rearranging some residential areas in the ward, especially in the Doi Duong - Thuong Chanh coastal area when the province implements investment. Even in identifying urgent projects, Phan Thiet has chosen to renovate and upgrade 1-2 roads within residential areas in the ward.

This is not just the work of the government, but also of the people, working together to make their living environment greener, cleaner, and more beautiful. Over the past five years, 24 "People-led, State-supported" projects have contributed to urban beautification and flood control in residential areas, with a total cost of over 2.7 billion VND, of which the people contributed 936 million VND. The people have also built 98 projects in residential areas with a total value of nearly 2.4 billion VND. In the future, Phan Thiet ward is determined to continue implementing the "People-led, State-supported" principle, mobilizing various resources to accelerate the construction of infrastructure in residential areas, prioritizing the expansion and upgrading of alleyways, drainage systems, lighting systems, and the repair and upgrading of neighborhood committee offices.

According to Nguyen Van Tam, Standing Committee member of the Provincial Party Committee and Secretary of the Phan Thiet Ward Party Committee, in the coming time, the ward will continue to implement the tasks that the former Phan Thiet City had already undertaken. These include continuing to build an e-government system, strengthening functions, developing the Phan Thiet Smart City Operations Center (IOC), and effectively applying it to state management in various fields. It will also continue the campaign "Phan Thiet residents do not litter, discharge wastewater, or dispose of waste on streets and public areas." At the same time, it will promote smart behavior in buying and selling, maintaining a friendly and hospitable attitude, and working together for the benefit of their community, which derives revenue from tourism.
