After the three-day weekend of June 1st this year, the film "Doraemon: Nobita and the Ideal Land" was still chosen by theaters to have a superior number of screenings, suitable for the tastes of children and families in Vietnam.

The top two films in the box office this past weekend (June 2-4) were "Doraemon: Nobita and the Ideal Land in the Sky" and "Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse".
Contrary to the excitement that audiences and critics had for the new Spider-Man, the film only ranked second at the Vietnamese box office, very close behind Doraemon.
Box Office Vietnam figures from last weekend show that the film "Nobita and the Ideal Land in the Sky" grossed over 12.5 billion VND, equivalent to 129,350 tickets sold. The film was released on May 26th and is currently in its second week of screening. With this achievement, the total revenue of the film "Nobita and the Ideal Land in the Sky" has now reached 54.5 billion VND.
Meanwhile, Spider-Man only grossed over 10.3 billion VND over the three-day weekend. Released on International Children's Day, June 1st, the film earned over 4 billion VND on its opening day.
Considering the total number of screenings, it's clear that Vietnamese cinemas highly value Doraemon's revenue potential. The film was scheduled for 4,526 screenings, while Spider-Man was scheduled for 3,642, approximately 1,000 fewer.

However, at box offices worldwide , this situation is reversed. According to Box Office Mojo statistics, the Spider-Man film is on an upward trend, earning $208.6 million mainly from the Americas and Europe, while the Doraemon film only reached nearly $32.7 million, mainly from Vietnam and Japan.
Another film released for children on June 1st was the live-action adaptation of "The Little Mermaid" (2023). Unfortunately, Disney's new film didn't live up to audience expectations. Released nearly a week before Spider-Man, "The Little Mermaid" has only grossed $326.7 million worldwide.
With a budget of $250 million (excluding marketing costs), the film is expected to need at least $500 million, or even $750 million, to break even.
In Vietnam, the film also received many negative reactions from audiences, only grossing over 10 billion VND since its release on May 26th.
