Tourism stimulates consumption of agricultural products.

Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Phu (standing in the middle) assesses tourism as one of the solutions to stimulate the consumption of agricultural products and local specialties.

Combining tourism and agricultural product consumption has opened up new avenues to help Lam Dong's agricultural products increase in value and reach consumers directly. This is also a way to develop agricultural tourism – a bridge bringing agricultural products closer to tourists.

In Lam Dong province , agricultural tourism is increasingly expanding. Many farms are opening their doors to visitors, allowing them to experience harvesting vegetables and fruits, enjoy the produce on-site, and purchase items to take home. During the experience, visitors hear interesting stories about agricultural production and local specialties. Through this, consumers not only gain access to safe, fresh produce but also learn more about the farming process.

Mr. Nguyen Van Nuoi's family in Truong Xuan commune owns 2 hectares of lychee trees that are currently in production, yielding tens of tons annually. Taking advantage of the lychee orchard's location next to National Highway 14, for the past 5 years, Mr. Nuoi has opened his orchard to tourists from all over Vietnam.

Mr. Nuoi shared: “Around April and May, our family's lychee orchard is in harvest season. During this time, the lychees are beautifully ripe, and I open the orchard free of charge to tourists. Visitors are captivated, taking pictures and buying lychees to enjoy right in the orchard, as well as taking many home. This is a very good sales channel for our family.”

Mr. Le Van Hoang, Director of Bazan Dak Nong Coffee Co., Ltd., Bac Gia Nghia ward, shared: “Previously, we only produced and processed coffee and cocoa according to orders. During our operation in the agricultural sector, we realized that combining agriculture and tourism is a very good channel for consuming agricultural products. Therefore, we opened coffee shops in prime locations and collaborated with tourism companies to create tours.”

Currently, the company collaborates with farmers to create tourist attractions where visitors can experience cocoa and coffee plantations, as well as cocoa and chocolate processing factories. "Domestic and international tourists enjoy the hands-on experience. Besides buying products as souvenirs, many domestic and foreign tourists have become our partners," Mr. Hoang said.

Since opening its doors to tourists for guided tours and direct sales of agricultural products, the company's revenue has increased by approximately 30-40%. Tourists prefer buying directly from the farm, at the stalls, or at the factory because they can see the quality and the farming process.

From a professional perspective, Associate Professor Dr. Huynh Phu - Southern Institute of Environment and Circular Economy, Ho Chi Minh City, believes that combining tourism and agriculture is an inevitable direction in the context of agricultural products needing to have their value enhanced. This model not only helps increase income for farmers but also helps tourists understand the true nature of clean and safe products.

Creating authentic experiential spaces combined with on-site consumption of agricultural products is gradually becoming a new consumer trend, especially in the context of people's increasing concern about the origin of their food.
