The Resolution of the 20th Congress of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee identifies promoting tourism development as one of the key tasks for the 2020-2025 period.

To concretize this Resolution, the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province has developed and implemented the Project for the Development of Tourism in Quang Ngai Province until 2025, with a vision to 2030.

According to a report by the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism, after three years of implementing the Project, tourism products in the province have gradually diversified, with beach and island tourism continuing to play a leading role.

In particular, community-based tourism and agricultural and rural tourism models have developed strongly in some localities. As a result, the total number of visitors to the province has continuously increased.

While in 2022, Quang Ngai received a total of 650,000 visitors, generating revenue of 700 billion VND, this figure rose to over 1 million in 2023, reaching 1,018 billion VND. In 2024, the estimated total number of visitors is over 1.4 million, with revenue exceeding 1,434 billion VND.

Despite positive progress, overall, the development of Quang Ngai's tourism industry is still not commensurate with its potential, has not created a breakthrough, and lacks distinctive tourism products that can create a unique brand.

The main attractions are mostly undeveloped scenic spots, and the transportation infrastructure is still inconvenient, affecting the connection of tourism products with tourists...

Community-based tourism, agricultural tourism, and rural tourism activities are still seasonal, lack coordination, and the role of the community in tourism development has not been effectively utilized.

Adverse weather conditions during the rainy season, coupled with the limited number of flights to Chu Lai Airport, make it difficult to attract tourists from the potentially lucrative northern market.

The province lacks a specific mechanism for the tourism industry, thus failing to attract many investors to develop diverse tourism products, making it difficult to create a comprehensive set of tour packages.

In particular, Quang Ngai has not yet attracted investors to develop high-class, quality tourism products; the technical infrastructure is not synchronized, is small in scale, and lacks 3-5 star accommodation facilities.

There is a lack of supporting tourism services, entertainment areas, shopping centers, and restaurants; pedestrian streets, night markets, and other services to retain tourists and increase their spending have not yet been developed.

According to a representative of the Quang Ngai Tourism Association, one of the solutions to boost tourism in the coming period is to focus on selecting the right market segment.

Specifically, the plan focuses on developing the domestic tourism market, with an emphasis on segments such as leisure, entertainment, weekend getaways, and shopping; eco-tourism and agricultural tourism; and boosting the attraction of international tourists...

Meanwhile, Nguyen Quoc Huy Hoang, Deputy Director of the Department of Information and Communications of Quang Ngai province, said that in the digital transformation of tourism in Quang Ngai, it is necessary to promote the connection between state management agencies and tourism businesses, ensuring interoperability and uniformity to jointly build a data system, promotional programs, and tourism connectivity more effectively.

“We need to continue improving smart tourism applications, updating data on destinations, accommodations, and tourism products. The Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will act as the central point for sharing synchronized tourism information nationwide, linking Quang Ngai's tourism chain with the region. At the same time, we will move towards establishing a Quang Ngai Provincial Tourism Information Portal to provide complete and comprehensive information and services for tourists,” Mr. Hoang shared.

Nguyen Tien Dung, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Quang Ngai province, frankly acknowledged that tourism in Quang Ngai has not developed in proportion to its potential, advantages, and opportunities in terms of nature, people, and cultural and historical traditions.

Mr. Dung stated that in the coming period, the province will continue to vigorously implement the Party's guidelines and the State's policies and laws on tourism development.
