Vietnamese tourism will have a "touch" on Hollywood through the Tourism - Cinema Promotion program with the theme Vietnam - New destination of world cinema.
Cultural Exchange and the Film Industry
For Mr. Marc E.Knapper, US Ambassador to Vietnam, the film industry is an important topic because his hometown is Los Angeles - home to the powerful "film capital" Hollywood. At the press conference of the Promotion Program Travel – Vietnamese cinema – New destination of world cinema, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on September 16.9, at Ha Noi“The US Embassy’s participation in promoting Vietnamese film tourism is a natural step because promoting people-to-people exchanges is an important element that plays a key role in the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. There is no better way than to promote cultural exchanges through the film industry, so that we can tell the story of the Vietnamese people and Vietnam to the world and to the US,” said Mr. Marc E. Knapper.
The Vietnam Tourism and Cinema Promotion Program in the US organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is scheduled to take place from September 23 to 25.9 in San Francisco and Los Angeles (California). The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said that the program is a major promotional activity abroad with the participation of many localities: Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City, Ninh Binh, Quang BinhSome participating KOLs include: H'Hen Nie, Miss Universe Vietnam 2017; Luong Thuy Linh, Miss World Vietnam 2019; actress, MC Quyen Linh; actress Mai Thu Huyen...
One activity in the program is a space to introduce the country, people and culture of Vietnam with about 100 typical, high-quality photos. This can also be considered a solo exhibition of photographer Tran Tuan Viet, a photographer who has won many awards for the best photo of the day in the photo community of the American magazine National Geographic (Nat Geo). Director of the National Tourism Administration Nguyen Trung Khanh said: "The photos do not focus on any locality but are all images that can build Vietnam into the most beautiful film set."
Another important activity of the program is a seminar introducing the potential of tourism and cinema in Vietnam, with an expected participation of about 400 - 500 delegates. Director Nguyen Trung Khanh said: "The main guests attending the seminar are influential film producers and directors who will attend and talk about Vietnam. Some expected guests include: Phillip Noyce, film director Quiet Americans; Jordan Vogt-Roberts, director of Kong: Skull Island; Leann Emmert, production manager of Kong: Skull Island; Lori Balton, production manager of Kong: Skull Island Shang Chi; Mr. Justin Booth, Film Production Director Challenge; Mr. Joel S. Rice, film producer; Ms. Mai Suong, in charge of film production Challenge. In addition, we also invited director Oliver Stone, a famous director".
Business is the subject
Mr. Ho An Phong, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, shared that as well as inviting localities to participate in activities, the Ministry is very interested in inviting filmmakers, actors, and those who have contributed to Vietnamese cinema. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has conducted an "unlimited" invitation, followed by screening.
“Screening here does not mean discrimination, screening here means suitability. Ms. Mai Thu Huyen is one of the famous actresses of her time and she is currently making films. In particular, she is promoting a number of films in the near future, signing contracts with filmmakers in the US,” said Deputy Minister Phong.
The promotion program also opens up opportunities for localities to introduce their own policies. Director Nguyen Trung Khanh revealed that each province and city will have its own policies to support film crews from Hollywood and around the world when they come to their locality.
Deputy Minister Ho An Phong also said: “This is the first time the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has organized for Vietnamese tourism businesses and filmmakers to officially approach Hollywood. This time, businesses will be the main players, and they will have their own way of contributing.”
