At the workshop, many questions were raised, ranging from uploading products to Spotify, Apple Music, or YouTube, posting cover versions, to protecting revenue from music products. This shows that more and more young people in Hue are composing, producing, and wanting to release music, but not everyone knows how to bring their products to the audience professionally.

Lack of knowledge is worse than lack of passion.

In recent years, the music scene among Hue's youth has become more vibrant with the emergence of many independent bands, artists, and music projects bearing their personal mark. However, completing a song and releasing a musical product are two completely different stories.

At the workshop, Hanh Linh, TuneCore's representative in Vietnam, stated that releasing music today is no longer simply about uploading a music file to the internet. For a product to be distributed on digital platforms, it needs to meet many requirements regarding audio format, sound quality, product cover art, artist information, and copyright-related factors.

Through this sharing session, many young artists were introduced for the first time to a systematic process of releasing music on popular streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, and YouTube. These platforms are familiar to audiences but quite new to many who are just starting their own journey of releasing their own products.

Many attendees said they used to think that having a good song was enough. But when they started working on it, they realized that releasing music in the digital age requires a lot more knowledge related to platforms, copyright, product data, and revenue.

In particular, copyright issues are a major concern for many young artists. Do you need permission to cover a song? What are the risks of posting your work on digital platforms? How will revenue from listens be divided? These seemingly simple questions are actually knowledge gaps that many young people are facing.

Young people find their own way.

Dinh Nguyen, the leader of the band Nokar, said that the desire to release music had been present since the band's early days, around 2020. However, turning that desire into a complete product was not an easy journey. "This has been my wish since I first entered the world of music, along with my first friends at Nokar," Nguyen confided.

According to Nguyen, besides the difficulties in arranging and mixing music, accessing distribution platforms was also a major obstacle for the group. "In the beginning, when platforms supporting artists' releases weren't widely publicized, I was worried and didn't know how to release music properly," Nguyen said.

According to member Nokar, the music scene in Hue has only developed in recent years, so opportunities for young people to access professional distribution channels are still quite limited due to a lack of connections and mentors.

Nokar's story is not unique. Tuan Phong, the singer of the band OpenEyes, said that difficulty accessing the market is a major obstacle for many young people pursuing music. Furthermore, according to the young artist, the music community in Hue is still quite small and fragmented, lacking spaces for meeting, learning, and exchanging expertise. This makes it easy for many young people to feel uncertain about their musical career path.

In the digital age, opportunities to reach audiences have never been wider. Just a single piece of music that resonates with listeners can send a product virally across TikTok, Spotify, or YouTube. However, this great opportunity also means greater competitive pressure. Amidst the vast sea of content on digital platforms, young artists not only need to create great music but also understand how the modern music market operates, know how to protect their copyrights, and manage the rights associated with their own work.
