In Tan My 1 village, Vinh Thuy commune, the story of martyr Ta Cong Son is a touching testament to that yearning for family reunion. Martyr Ta Cong Son (born in 1959), from Vinh Thuy commune, served in Company 3, Battalion 1, Brigade 950, and died on November 14, 1979, while on duty defending the Fatherland. Nearly half a century has passed, and due to difficult circumstances, his family has only been able to light incense for him twice at Phu Quoc Martyrs' Cemetery in Kien Giang province.
For years, the relatives of the fallen soldier have tirelessly searched for information, hoping to bring him back to his hometown. For the family, bringing the remains of the fallen soldier back is not simply about identifying his final resting place, but also a way to fulfill their filial duty and show their gratitude to the one who dedicated his youth to the country.
In his twilight years, Mr. Nguyen Van Chuyet, residing in Tan My 1 village, Vinh Thuy commune, a relative of martyr Ta Cong Son, still harbors a profound wish: to bring his nephew's remains to be buried in the cemetery of his hometown.
Mr. Nguyen Van Chuyet shared: "Our family only hopes to one day bring our grandson's remains back to our hometown. I myself am 86 years old and cannot travel far to light an incense stick for my grandson. Although a long time has passed, we have never given up hope."

After nearly half a century resting in a foreign land, thanks to the attention and coordination between the local authorities, the Department of Internal Affairs of Quang Tri province and the Department of Internal Affairs of Kien Giang province, martyr Ta Cong Son was brought back from Phu Quoc Martyrs' Cemetery to be buried in Vinh Linh commune Martyrs' Cemetery according to the wishes of his family.
That wish is not only the desire of the family of martyr Ta Cong Son but also the shared aspiration of thousands of martyr families in Quang Tri province, where many sons and daughters have yet to return home.
Furthermore, thanks to the intensified "500-day campaign to search for, collect, and identify the remains of fallen soldiers," immediately after receiving information provided by the people, on May 6, 2026, Team 584 of the Provincial Military Command, in coordination with the local government, relevant units, and the people of Le Xa village, Vinh Thuy commune, conducted a survey, search, and collection of the remains of one fallen soldier. And, on June 29, 2026, the Party Committee, government, and people of Vinh Linh commune solemnly held a memorial service and burial at Vinh Linh Martyrs' Cemetery.

Beyond simply implementing policies and regulations for those who have rendered meritorious service, the search for and collection of the remains of fallen soldiers has always been identified by local Party committees and authorities as a regular task with profound humanitarian significance.
Mr. Tran Nhat Quang, Secretary of the Party Committee of Vinh Linh commune, affirmed that the Party Committee, government, and people of Vinh Linh commune always consider the work of showing gratitude to and caring for those who have rendered meritorious services, and searching for and collecting the remains of martyrs, as a sacred responsibility and sentiment towards those who sacrificed for the independence and freedom of the Fatherland.
We hope that every citizen will be a "bridge of memory," providing valuable information and documents that are still preserved to contribute to the search efforts of the authorities in bringing our fallen heroes back to their families and hometowns. This is not only the responsibility of the military but also the shared responsibility of the entire political system and society as a whole. Each remains of a fallen soldier found and brought back to be buried in their hometown cemetery not only helps alleviate the pain of the martyr's family but also educates today's young generation about the tradition of patriotism and the principle of "drinking water, remembering the source."
