Hanoi City is actively coordinating with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment to prepare for the 2025 International Traditional Craft Village Preservation and Development Festival, which is expected to be held in Hanoi in November.

Preparations for the event are being carried out urgently and meticulously, with many new features. The city considers this event not only culturally significant but also a long-term strategy to create a lasting impression of Hanoi – a creative city, a city of traditional crafts; contributing to bringing Hanoi's traditional craft products, and those of Vietnam in general, to the world .

Diverse activities to honor traditional craft villages.

According to Nguyen Dinh Hoa, Deputy Director of the Hanoi Department of Agriculture and Environment, the 2025 International Traditional Craft Village Preservation and Development Festival, organized by Hanoi in coordination with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment , aims to honor artisans, skilled craftsmen, and exemplary traditional craft villages nationwide. It also serves as an opportunity to promote, connect with markets, and expand trade promotion for Hanoi's and Vietnam's traditional craft products to international friends. The planning process has been meticulously underway since May 2025 with close cooperation between the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment and the Hanoi People's Committee. In Hanoi, many departments, agencies, and the Thang Long - Hanoi Heritage Conservation Center have also contributed ideas to refine the content and organization of the festival.

According to the plan, the 2025 International Traditional Craft Village Preservation and Development Festival will be held at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel Heritage Site for 5 days, tentatively in November 2025. However, many side activities will be launched in September to create a vibrant festival atmosphere. Before the opening ceremony, there will be a ceremony of offering incense at the Kinh Thien Palace, affirming the connection between tradition and the present, between the soul of the nation and the breath of development. The exhibition spaces will be designed around the theme "Preservation - Development - Integration" with many sub-areas: a preservation space showcasing traditional techniques, ancient tools, and artisans demonstrating their skills; a development space showcasing products with modern and creative designs; an international integration space displaying handicraft products from traditional craft villages around the world; and a space for OCOP (One Commune One Product) and cuisine , ornamental plants, an art stage, and an area for exchanging photos of traditional craft villages. In particular, within the framework of the Festival, two major competitions will be held concurrently: the Vietnamese Handicraft and Fine Arts Products Competition and the Hanoi City Traditional Craft Village Products Competition, with the aim of finding outstanding traditional craft village products that embody aesthetic, technical, and cultural values ​​to honor them.

Beyond just exhibitions, this festival also features many other attractive and beneficial activities, such as: a thematic seminar on "Preserving and Developing Hanoi's Traditional Craft Villages"; a fair showcasing traditional craft products and safe agricultural and food products; a conference on promoting investment in the development of rural industries..., opening up valuable channels for exchanging information, knowledge, and experience... for the goal of developing traditional craft villages.

According to Le Ba Ngoc, Vice Chairman of the Vietnam Handicraft Export Association, Hanoi has approximately 1,350 craft villages and villages with traditional crafts. Each craft village represents a valuable tangible and intangible cultural heritage. Among them, dozens of craft villages have gained international recognition, such as Bat Trang pottery, Van Phuc silk, Phu Vinh rattan and bamboo crafts, Chuyen My mother-of-pearl inlay, Chuong conical hats, and Son Dong sculpture. We need to continue to recognize and prioritize Hanoi's craft villages to ensure their proper development...

According to Vice Chairman of the Hanoi People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen, recognizing the immense potential and strengths of Hanoi's craft villages, the city considers this a strategy to position the brand of Hanoi's craft villages. Furthermore, as the "leading force" of the country, organizing the festival is not only for Hanoi but also aims to honor, promote, and support craft villages nationwide; affirming Vietnam as a nation rich in identity and capable of deep integration in the fields of handicrafts, design, and creative culture.

To achieve the set goals, Vice Chairman of the City People's Committee Nguyen Manh Quyen suggested that the products participating in the festival must be carefully selected. Through the event, connections should be made with export sources to reach the global market. In addition, work should be done with travel agencies to bring international tourists to Vietnamese craft villages.

According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Environment Vo Van Hung, with the spirit of connecting craft villages domestically and internationally, the festival is expected to be a celebration for craftspeople, while also demonstrating the strong commitment of the Government, ministries, and the Hanoi city government in preserving and developing rural crafts, building craft village tourism, and arousing pride and innovation within the artisan community.

With vision and meticulous preparation, the event not only contributed to fostering national pride but also created new momentum for the sustainable development of rural industries. Hanoi once again affirmed its pioneering role, especially in innovation, bringing Vietnamese craft villages to the world.
