Impressions of the highland market

For over a month now, every Saturday and Sunday morning, the "Highland Market" has been taking place at Leaf Village & Farm tourist area (Nam My hamlet, former Hoa Bac commune, now Hai Van ward).

Ms. Le Thi Thong (residing in Nam My village) is one of the first households to participate in selling goods at the highland market.

Every day, she buys fruits, vegetables, and local specialties produced by the Co Tu people, then brings them to sell at the market. Each season brings its own produce, and her stall makes a strong impression on tourists with its rustic and familiar local products.

"Since the highland market was established, I've been buying more agricultural products and vegetables from the Co Tu people to serve tourists. This helps solve part of the problem of finding outlets for local agricultural products, increasing the income of the people and allowing them to continue sustainable agricultural production," Ms. Thong shared.

Visiting and shopping at the market, Ms. Tran Thanh Thuy (residing in Hai Chau ward) exclaimed: “I am very impressed and delighted with this highland market. There are many fresh, high-quality foods here, grown and raised by the local people themselves, making it a great opportunity for tourists to experience and shop.”

Mr. Hoang Nhat Nguyen, the investor of Leaf Village & Farm, said, "The 'Highland Market' will be launched in June 2025, aiming to create more tourism products to serve visitors to Hoa Bac in general, and Leaf Village & Farm in particular."

At the market, visitors can enjoy local cuisine , explore and shop at stalls selling fresh agricultural products by local people. In addition, visitors can participate in folk games such as crossbow shooting, pot smashing, sack racing, and stick pushing. Especially in the evening, visitors can immerse themselves in the folk gong festival and traditional dances performed by Co Tu artisans.

"This is a tourism product that we are passionate about, aiming to connect tourism with local culture and sustainable agricultural production, supporting the consumption of local agricultural products. Through this, we contribute to improving the income and living standards of local people and spreading the model of ecotourism linked to the community," Mr. Nguyen shared.

It is known that during the upcoming National Day holiday on September 2nd, the highland market will take place for 5 days, from August 30th to September 2nd, along with activities such as making buffalo horn-shaped cakes, rice cake wrapping competitions, and making traditional cakes... aiming to provide tourists with interesting experiences.

Experiential tourism

In early August 2025, within the framework of the 7th Ngoc Linh Ginseng Festival 2025, the People's Committee of Tra Tap commune launched an experiential tourism tour called "The Legend of Ngoc Linh Ginseng".

This two-day, one-night tour allows visitors to experience trekking through the forest, visiting ginseng gardens, and participating in the cultivation and harvesting of Ngoc Linh ginseng alongside the local people. Visitors can enjoy traditional local dishes and ginseng-based foods and drinks; engage in cultural exchange with the Ca Dong and Xo Dang people; spend the night camping in tents amidst the vast forest, and listen to village elders and leaders recount stories of the "Legend of Ngoc Linh Ginseng" preserved through generations.

According to Le Trung Thuc, Chairman of the People's Committee of Tra Tap commune, taking advantage of the local climate, soil, and products, especially the "national treasure" Ngoc Linh ginseng bestowed by nature, to build the "Legend of Ngoc Linh Ginseng" experiential tourism tour is a sustainable direction for local tourism, contributing to preserving and promoting the unique values of the locality.

“The local government's goal is to develop community-based tourism, therefore the people are the main stakeholders. The local government is promoting the development of a comprehensive plan for tourism development in Tra Tap commune and neighboring communes. At the same time, they are encouraging people to participate with the government, creating a sustainable ecosystem for community-based tourism development,” Mr. Thuc said.

Accordingly, many tours offering experiences such as swimming, snorkeling to admire coral reefs, visiting historical sites; picnicking and camping on the beach; and making traditional cakes with locals... attract a large number of tourists.

According to Pham Thi My Huong, Chairwoman of the Tan Hiep Commune People's Committee, the commune has over 2,600 residents, with more than 80% of households earning their living from tourism. On average, Cu Lao Cham attracts 3,000 visitors daily, generating significant revenue for the locality.
