In 2025, the first Vietnam Poetry Day will be held in Ninh Binh, featuring numerous activities, centered around the poetry night "The Homeland Soars" at the Pham Thi Tran Theater, along with a panel discussion on "The Responsibility and Aspirations of a Poet." The Poetry Day space will also display posters of 20 exemplary Vietnamese poets who have received the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Art, as well as classical and modern poems about Ninh Binh, and beautiful images of Ninh Binh's landscapes and scenery.
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Dang Diep, Chairman of the Council of Literary Theory and Criticism - Vietnam Writers Association, once shared that the Vietnam Writers Association's decision to bring Poetry Day to localities aims to expand the reach of poetry and connect culture with the community. In Ninh Binh , poetry lovers come here not only to appreciate literature and art but also to have the opportunity to immerse themselves in a region rich in historical and cultural heritage, with a thousand-year-old cultural layer.
Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu, President of the Vietnam Writers Association, said that this year the Association chose Quang Ninh as the location for Vietnam Poetry Day, signifying that the country is entering a new era. Quang Ninh is a land of nature, history, and culture, and is becoming an important bright spot in the process of national renewal and development. That is also the reason why Vietnam Poetry Day 2026 has the theme "Before the Great Sea".
“Vietnamese Poetry Day has become a special festival with the participation and organization of all localities, reflecting the unique cultural characteristics of each region. This year, the Association chose and collaborated with Quang Ninh province because of its majestic natural beauty, proud cultural traditions, historical landmarks from the periods of resistance against French colonialism and American imperialism, and the recent years of national reconstruction,” affirmed poet Nguyen Quang Thieu.
In Ha Long City, activities for Vietnam Poetry Day 2026 are taking place at various locations, including the "Before the Great Sea" poetry night at the Quang Ninh Provincial Planning, Fair and Exhibition Center, Tran Quoc Nghien Street, Ha Long Ward; and the "The Dignity of Poetry" seminar at the Grand Ha Long Hotel, 138 Ha Long Street, Bai Chay Ward. In addition, there is a poetry exhibition space showcasing 50 selected poems by various authors, not just individual verses, but also complete poems and their contexts. Poet Tran Dang Khoa, Vice President of the Vietnam Writers Association and the person who selected the poems for this year's Vietnam Poetry Day exhibition, said that the poems with selected verses will be printed and published by the Organizing Committee as a special poetry collection this year titled "Before the Great Sea".
Poet Huu Viet, a member of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Writers Association and the General Director of Vietnam Poetry Day 2026, said that last year, when Vietnam Poetry Day 2025 was first held in Ninh Binh, the organizing committee promised and expressed its desire to bring this event to a wider audience nationwide. This year, the Vietnam Writers Association continues this approach and maintains a rotating schedule depending on the theme of each year.
Poet Nguyen Quang Thieu also stated that in 2025, Hanoi will begin organizing Poetry Day at the Temple of Literature, and at that time, the Vietnam Writers Association will decide to move Vietnam Poetry Day to special regions, with a different theme each year. It is expected that in 2027, Vietnam Poetry Day will be held in the hometown of Nguyen Dinh Chieu with the theme "Rivers of the Homeland," the birthplace of the great poet Nguyen Du, and the Central Highlands, northern provinces, and many other localities will also welcome it. I think Poetry Day needs to be closer to people and to life.
A key aspect of bringing poetry to a wider audience is that poetry shouldn't be confined to discussion halls or stages for a small group of a few thousand people to read, but rather needs to reach a diverse public. Each exchange of ideas, each poem read aloud, each interaction between poet and audience, will sow the seeds of poetry widely and spread beauty and compassion. This year, Poetry Day will organize poetry groups, each consisting of about five poets, to visit agencies, units, schools, and mines, and many poets have already registered to participate.
"By organizing Poetry Day in Ninh Binh in 2025 and Quang Ninh in 2026, we hope that the love of poetry will spread widely," emphasized the Chairman of the Vietnam Writers Association.
