Not long ago, videos and images with sensational content appeared on social media claiming "Can Tho police raided and caught red-handed a steamed bun factory selling buns filled with rats." Of course, this was also fake news, completely untrue, and blatantly fabricated by malicious individuals. Authorities have issued warnings about this false information.
In many localities across the country, authorities have previously fined numerous individuals for posting fake videos and clips created by AI with misleading content. These individuals used AI to create videos of a man "riding a python" swimming in Hoan Kiem Lake; fake images of people fainting at gas stations; crocodiles appearing in many places; and rice drying in the sun popping into puffed rice... Too much misleading and false information generated by AI is spreading rapidly every day and every hour.
The purposes behind creating such content are diverse, sometimes simply to "gain likes" or "views" for fun, like "idle hands make mischief," and sometimes with the intention of attracting attention to increase interaction on sales channels. More seriously, many individuals exploit AI to spread distorted narratives and undermine the Party and State, causing confusion in society. The consequences of using AI to spread fake and harmful information often extend far beyond material issues.
Contributing to the spread of fake news and misinformation from AI products are also social media users who are always curious, eager to gossip, and lack the skills to filter information. In fact, looking back at the stories cited, many AI-generated products contain numerous inconsistencies, silly errors, and are "fake" in the AI's own way, yet they are still shared like wildfire and believed. AI makes it easy for people to deceive each other. Clearly, before waiting for authorities or algorithms to filter fake news, the first and most necessary "shield" is the vigilance of social media users. Those who use social media need to strengthen their skills in selecting and verifying information. And if information cannot be verified from official sources, it's best not to believe it or spread it. Don't bring trouble upon yourself!
