Hua Nhat Thanh (born in 1999, from An Giang province) is about to graduate from Columbia University (USA) and start working at a financial investment company on Wall Street. He is currently working on a blockchain start-up project to help users learn English, and is also participating in a project supporting environmental start-ups at the social enterprise Nuoc Solutions.
Persistent effort
Despite being trained in two fields—computer science and applied mathematics, and political science—Thanh's career path is geared towards finance and banking. According to him, all fields are closely interconnected if one's thinking and dreams are big enough and far-reaching. "In finance, technological understanding increases efficiency, while political understanding deepens one's awareness of culture, environment, and people, leading to greater adaptability and success," Thanh stated.

Thanh previously worked at Goldman Sachs, a leading investment bank on Wall Street, earning $110,000 per year. His social enterprise, Nuoc Solutions, which he founded with friends, received $100,000 in investment from Bill Gates' Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and raised over $7,000 from individual donors in Vietnam and the US. Throughout his studies, Nhat Thanh accumulated numerous awards and scholarships.
Hua Nhat Thanh is full of pride as a Vietnamese person and always looks towards his homeland with many meaningful social activities.
Success doesn't come overnight; it stems from persistent effort. Having been accepted into a major university in Ho Chi Minh City, Thanh decided to pursue his dream of studying abroad, a dream he'd cherished since high school. This choice might seem risky, but Thanh believed that with thorough research and preparation, the chances of success were high. "I've experienced quite a few failures following the beaten path, so I wanted to try different approaches. Learning about the great figures and heroes of history, I truly admire their strong spirit. I want to emulate those predecessors who dared to live their lives to the fullest for their dreams," Thanh confided.
Thanh sees his mission as selecting the best and most suitable things to bring back to Vietnam for application. Through this, he contributes, along with many like-minded young people, to building and developing the national economy , making the process of international integration increasingly effective and smooth.
Experience and growth
For Truong Nguyen Kieu Phuong (a student majoring in Logistics and Port Management at Ho Chi Minh City University of Transport in collaboration with Tongmyong University - South Korea), every step on her journey to the open sea is meaningful and brings many valuable lessons.
Born and raised in a small town, like many other young people, Kieu Phuong was once hesitant about choosing a major at university after graduating from high school. "The decision to study an international joint program with two years in Vietnam and two years in South Korea was the right one. Thanks to that, I had a wonderful and promising student life. Talented and enthusiastic teachers guided me through difficulties to confidently move forward. They gave me a lot of useful advice and guidance, helping me become more and more confident," Phuong recounted.
Outside of school hours, Kieu Phuong spends her time exploring and learning about the interesting things in other countries. She loves the unique natural beauty of Busan.
International students face countless pressures in a foreign land, and she believes each individual should accumulate the necessary preparation to overcome these challenges. Her time studying in Busan – the largest port city in South Korea (southeast of the Korean Peninsula) – helped her hone her character. According to Phuong, unity is strength; don't let yourself become alone, make sure you always have a community behind you that shares your voice. "Spirit is also very important, because we cannot reap any sweet fruits on land we don't love. Slow down and find a refuge for your heart. Besides that, diversify your perspectives, be cautious and insightful when evaluating anything. Instead of complaining or being pessimistic when faced with unfavorable situations, find solutions, learn to appreciate and cherish the people and positive things," Phuong said.
The Gen Z girl, with a radiant smile, said: "For me, choosing to study abroad is about returning and bringing the knowledge and skills I've accumulated to contribute to the beauty of my homeland."
