While visiting the roads within Pu Huê village (Ea Ktur commune), village chief Y Nik Êban (68 years old) expressed his joy at the village's progress.
He vividly remembers that about 30 years ago, out of 162 households in the village, 102 were poor. The roads were mostly dirt, with only a few being paved with crushed stone. Schools were far from residential areas, and the people mainly cultivated rice and worked as hired laborers; life was extremely difficult. Over time, thanks to the attention of the local Party committee and government, out of the 272 households in the village today, only 12 remain poor. The people have learned to develop their economy by cultivating key crops such as pepper, coffee, and durian. Many intercropping models have been effectively implemented.
The dilapidated thatched and wooden houses have been replaced by spacious Thai-style houses. In recent years, agricultural products have yielded good harvests and fetched good prices, allowing people to purchase cars, water pumps, mills, and agricultural product dryers. New rural roads, built jointly by the government and the people, have been completed, and the dropout rate among ethnic minority children has decreased. The percentage of students graduating from university and vocational schools and finding stable employment is steadily increasing.

Mr. Ly Van Dieu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ea Ktur commune, said that the changes in Pu Hue hamlet are one of the concrete proofs of the progress of a purely agricultural commune like Ea Ktur. The entire commune currently has 23 villages and hamlets with 3,663 households and more than 18,800 inhabitants, of which the Ede ethnic group accounts for nearly 30% of the total population. In the early days of its establishment, Ea Ktur commune faced many difficulties as it had to focus on leading economic development while consolidating security and national defense. The Party Committee of Ea Ktur commune has put forward many appropriate and accurate policies, decisions, and tasks to lead the people of all ethnic groups to unite, support each other, overcome difficulties and challenges, work creatively, and strive to increase production and eradicate hunger and poverty.
In recent years, by boldly identifying and focusing on implementing strategic breakthrough tasks in crop restructuring, infrastructure investment, new rural development, and improving the quality of the cadre, the work of Ea Ktur commune has achieved and exceeded the planned targets.
The economy of Ea Ktur commune is currently experiencing significant growth, with an expanding economic scale and increasing agricultural production value. Average annual coffee yields range from 2.5 to 3.2 tons of green beans per hectare; pepper yields average from 2.5 to 3 tons per hectare. Average per capita income reaches 72.5 million VND per year. The commune's infrastructure development is increasingly meeting the needs of the people. Irrigation works ensure irrigation for 98% of the cultivated area requiring irrigation. The transportation system has been expanded, renovated, and upgraded, basically meeting the transportation needs of the people. The rate of asphalt paving on roads to the commune center is 100%, inter-village and hamlet roads are 100% hardened, and over 99% of households use safe electricity.

Implementing the National Target Program for New Rural Development, Ea Ktur commune has become a shining example in Cu Kuin district, being one of the first localities to achieve the new rural development goals and is currently gradually building an advanced new rural commune. To date, the commune has been implementing the project "Model for Diversifying Livelihoods and Developing Poverty Reduction Models" and the project "Developing Production to Improve Nutrition" under the National Target Program for Sustainable Poverty Reduction. With the concerted efforts and determination of the entire political system to implement social security and welfare programs and support the poor and near-poor, by the end of 2024, only 2.61% of households in the commune will be poor (a reduction of 25.3% compared to the target set in the 2024 resolution).
Administrative reform is also considered a key task by local Party committees and authorities, and is implemented through many effective models and methods, such as assigning Youth Union members to support and guide people when carrying out administrative procedures; installing surveillance cameras at the reception and results delivery department; implementing the "No writing days, no appointments on Fridays" model, guiding and resolving people's applications quickly, ensuring compliance with regulations and procedures, which is highly appreciated by the people.
These results have laid the foundation for the Ea Ktur commune Party Committee to continue promoting the strength of national unity, mobilizing all resources to accelerate socio-economic development, maintaining national defense and security; gradually modernizing agriculture and rural areas, and building Ea Ktur commune into a comprehensively and sustainably developed area.
