Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson believes that wearing only underwear throughout the season has helped him win seven national titles in the last eight years.
Ederson played for the youth teams of Sao Paulo and Benfica, then began his career at Portuguese club Ribeirao in 2011. He later joined Rio Ave and made a name for himself at Benfica. In his two years with Benfica, the Brazilian goalkeeper won four titles, including two Portuguese league titles, one Portuguese Cup, and one Portuguese League Cup.
In the summer of 2017, Ederson joined Man City for $45 million, becoming the second most expensive goalkeeper at the time, behind only Gianluigi Buffon. He quickly took the starting spot from Claudio Bravo and became a key player in Pep Guardiola's style of play.

In total, Ederson played 288 matches in all competitions, winning five Premier League titles, one FA Cup, four League Cups, and two Community Shields. The 29-year-old goalkeeper also set a record by winning three consecutive Premier League Golden Glove awards, from 2020 to 2022. Ederson was also a member of the Brazilian team that won the 2019 Copa America.
However, Ederson jokingly said that his success wasn't solely due to his own skills, teammates, and coaching staff, but also to a superstition – that he always wore the same pair of underwear throughout the entire season.
"I have a superstition that I wear the same underwear to every game," Ederson told TNT Sports . "It's always the same! Everyone here knows it, and after I'm done, I put it away. I only wear one pair each season."
The Brazilian goalkeeper said this was his "only superstition" and that he had maintained this habit since his time playing for Benfica. "The first year I wore it like that and it worked," Ederson recounted. "And in the last eight years, I've won seven national titles. Clearly, that superstition has paid off."
After winning the Premier League, Ederson and his teammates have two more matches to play: against Manchester United in the FA Cup final on June 3rd, and then against Inter Milan in the Champions League final on June 10th. If they win both matches, Manchester City will become the second club to win three major titles in a single season, after Manchester United in the 1998-1999 season.
