Starting March 27th, Meta introduced the Friends tab on Facebook, a move that CEO Mark Zuckerberg called "a return to the original Facebook where you only see your friends' status updates."
The Friends tab is part of Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg's effort to restore the original spirit of the Facebook app, or "OG Facebook" as he calls it. In a post introducing the feature on his personal account, Mark Zuckerberg said there will be more "OG Facebook" in the future.
As the name suggests, this tab only displays the most recent posts from the user's friends on Facebook instead of suggested content. These include Stories, Reels, status updates, birthdays, and friend requests.
The Facebook news feed remains the primary way for users to find and interact with content on the service. Meta is increasing its use of AI to suggest content from across the platform that matches individual preferences.
Zuckerberg hinted at an “OG Facebook” during a meeting with analysts in January. He said, “a lot of people use Facebook every day” and believed there was more opportunity for the app to create a greater cultural impact than it does today. He wanted to return to Facebook's “early days.”
In a Facebook video , the Meta CEO compared the new feature to the social networking experience on laptops in 2008. Currently, the Friends tab is available in the US and Canada, and it's unclear when it will expand to other markets.
