Since the 1990s, Konami's Pro Evolution Soccer (PES) (now known as eFootball) has competed with EA Sports' earlier FIFA series for the top spot in football games. PES initially made a name for itself with its realistic gameplay, but in the 2010s, FIFA began to rise to the top.
Konami and FIFA both emphasize that their partnership is to bring players closer to football through special competitions. These FIFAe World Cup events will allow participants to represent their country in the virtual world , making football fans feel more connected to the growing eSports community.
FIFA's leadership also shared similar excitement, pointing out that this partnership perfectly aligns with FIFA's goal of promoting football globally. FIFA's business director mentioned that creating an inclusive space for diverse communities to participate in eSports is a key part of FIFA's future plans.
The FIFA World Cup 2024 will feature two different game modes: a 2v2 mode for console players and a 1v1 mode for mobile players, offering multiple ways for gamers to compete. Qualifiers, starting in October 2024, will feature players from 18 countries and territories, including major teams like Brazil, France, and Argentina, all vying for a spot in the final. The finals will take place later in the year, bringing together top players from around the world for a grand global competition.
