FIFA launches Peace Prize

On November 5th, the International Football Federation (FIFA) announced the establishment of the FIFA Peace Prize, which is expected to be awarded for the first time during the draw for the 2026 World Cup Finals in Washington, D.C., on December 5th.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said the award aims to honor individuals who have made significant contributions to uniting people and bringing hope to future generations. He emphasized: "Football represents peace, and on behalf of the entire global football community, the FIFA Peace Prize – Football Unites the World will recognize these tremendous efforts.”

The announcement came just before Infantino attended the Americas Business Forum in Miami, where US President Donald Trump and football star Lionel Messi were also present as speakers. The identity of the first recipient has not been revealed, but international media speculate that Trump is a strong candidate.

The 2026 World Cup will be co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico from June 11 to July 19, 2026.
