In the inaugural Southeast Asian Women's Futsal Championship, the Vietnamese women's futsal team achieved an emotional victory. Thanks to the coaching staff's sound tactics and the players' determination, the Vietnamese women's futsal team secured a dramatic win against strong opponents Thailand in the final. Notably, this was the first victory for the Vietnamese women's futsal team against Thailand in an official tournament. Simultaneously, the Vietnamese futsal team broke Thailand's dominance in regional competitions. Previously, the Thai team had won all five SEA Games where women's futsal was held (in 2007, 2011, 2013, 2017, and 2021), while the Vietnamese team always finished second.

Beyond just winning the championship, the victory in the 2024 Southeast Asian Women's Futsal Championship final also boosted the Vietnamese women's futsal team's confidence ahead of future matches against Thailand. "Thai women's futsal is high-level, but Vietnam is not inferior, so the players' mentality is crucial when entering the match. Having secured the win, the Vietnamese futsal players' confidence will increase, and they will no longer be apprehensive when facing the Thais," shared head coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang.

The achievements at regional competitions also serve as a good foundation for the Vietnamese women's futsal team to aim for continental-level tournaments such as the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship (held in China). Accordingly, the top three teams at the 2024 Asian Women's Futsal Championship will qualify for the 2025 Women's Futsal World Cup (the first of its kind). In Asian women's futsal, Japan, Iran, and Thailand are the top three strongest teams and also strong contenders for the three World Cup spots. Based on their performance so far, the Vietnamese women's futsal team is also in contention, at least in direct competition with Thailand. The Vietnamese girls can absolutely dream of participating in the biggest tournament on the planet for women's futsal.

Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang stated: "The Southeast Asian Championship will be an important impetus and stepping stone for the Vietnamese women's futsal team to aim for higher-quality tournaments with stronger opponents, such as the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship and even further, the World Cup. However, there is still much to be done. Vietnamese players still need to improve their physical fitness."

WHEN WILL THE VIETNAMESE WOMEN'S FUTSAL TEAM PARTICIPATE IN THE ASIAN QUALIFIERS ?

The Vietnamese women's futsal team is expected to reconvene on December 16th, before participating in the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship qualifiers. In the qualifiers, the Vietnamese team is in Group D with Taiwan, Macau, and Myanmar. All matches in Group D of the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship qualifiers will be held in Myanmar from January 15th to 20th, 2025.

The 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship qualifiers bring together 19 teams, divided into 4 groups (3 groups of 5 teams and 1 group of 4 teams), playing in a single round-robin format, with points awarded for ranking. The top two teams from each group and the best third-placed team will compete alongside host nation China, defending champion (Iran), and defending runner-up (Japan) in the 2025 Asian Women's Futsal Championship finals.
