Vietnam's women's futsal team suffered a defeat against Thailand. |
After losing the 2024 Southeast Asian Championship and the SEA Games 33 gold medal on home soil to Vietnam, Thailand entered the tournament determined to reclaim their position as the region's number one. They benefited from a favorable schedule and an easy group. Their decisive victories in the group stage helped the host team conserve their energy before entering the semi-finals.
Conversely, Vietnam had to strain themselves playing three consecutive matches in the early afternoon against tough opponents like Australia, the Philippines, and Myanmar. The physical exhaustion clearly affected the ability of Coach Nguyen Dinh Hoang's team to compete and organize their defense.
Vietnam got off to a decent start when Thu Xuan capitalized on a rebound to open the scoring. However, Thailand quickly responded. Artkla equalized before Bubpha scored consecutively with one-touch finishes and accurate volleys, putting the home team 2-1 ahead after the first half.
In the second half, the momentum shifted completely in Thailand's favor. Paerploy and Arriya combined effectively to increase the score to 3-1, before a fourth goal dashed any hopes of a comeback for Vietnam. In the final minutes, Vietnam fought back and scored through Thanh Ngan. But that wasn't enough to turn the tide.
The 2-4 defeat served as a timely warning to the Vietnamese women's futsal team, while also demonstrating Thailand's readiness to reclaim the top spot in Southeast Asia.
In the earlier match, Australia came from behind to beat Indonesia 3-2 and will face Thailand in the final at 6:30 PM on February 3rd. On the same day, Vietnam will play Indonesia in the third-place match at 3:00 PM.
