| Nguyen Thi Ngoc Mai, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Council of Dai Phuoc commune, held discussions with voters and officials from Phuoc Ly and Thi Cau hamlets during an inspection of the local road. |
Through these close meetings, many grassroots issues were identified and resolved promptly, contributing to the renewal of the People's Council's activities towards being closer to the people, more responsive to their needs, and more substantive.
Close to the grassroots, close to the people.
Recently, in front of the school complex and the headquarters of Dai Phuoc commune, the flow of vehicles belonging to parents and residents no longer has to weave through the flowerbeds that used to occupy almost the entire sidewalk. The space, which was once cramped and frequently congested, has become more open and airy. The safe passageway has been widened. In the evenings, the area is filled with laughter as people come to exercise and children play.
Mr. Cao Van Phuc, a voter from Thi Cau hamlet, shared: "I have been complaining about the flowerbeds obstructing the view in front of Phu Dong Primary School for many years, but there has been no significant improvement. When the 'Meeting Point with Voters' model was implemented, this issue was raised directly at a meeting at the grassroots level. Immediately afterward, the commune leaders went to the site to survey and agreed on a plan to remove all the flowerbeds, restoring the unobstructed view to the area."
Ms. Pham Thi Luong, a resident of Thi Cau hamlet living near the area, still vividly remembers the time when this place was a source of worry for local people. Four schools located next to the commune's People's Committee headquarters caused heavy traffic during peak hours. Meanwhile, old flowerbeds occupied a large area on the sidewalk, obstructing visibility and leading to many unfortunate traffic accidents. “What surprised me was that after my concerns were raised at a ‘Meeting with Voters’ event, the commune leaders directly surveyed the site and resolved the issue. Not only did they solve the long-standing traffic bottleneck, but the space was also opened up as a community gathering place every evening. Voters were very pleased to see their opinions heard and addressed,” Ms. Luong said.
Not only the story in front of the school gate, but many other issues in Dai Phuoc also began to be resolved through such meetings. In early 2026, in response to the "Skilled Mass Mobilization" emulation movement, the Standing Committee of the People's Council of Dai Phuoc commune built a model of "Meeting Points with Voters" to innovate the activities of the People's Council at the grassroots level.
Previously, voter outreach primarily took place at regular meetings. With the new model, however, People's Council representatives proactively go down to each hamlet, meeting with residents right where they live. Gone are the constraints of meeting halls and time pressure; these dialogues are more intimate and open, allowing residents to express their concerns and enabling representatives to gain a more comprehensive understanding of the reality on the ground.
According to Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Mai, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Council of Dai Phuoc commune, the biggest goal of the model is not to create more meetings, but to create more opportunities for representatives to get closer to the people. "When going down to each hamlet, many seemingly small issues in daily life, from an illegal dumpsite, a damaged manhole cover, a poorly lit road, or flowerbeds obstructing the path in front of the school… are all seen more clearly. Only by understanding the reality correctly can monitoring and urging solutions be more closely aligned with the needs of the people," Ms. Mai shared.
Address feedback promptly.
Mr. Ngo Van Hiep, a voter from Phuoc Ly hamlet, had repeatedly complained about an illegal dumpsite causing pollution in the residential area, as well as the slow progress of a local road construction project. Following his recommendations at the "Meeting Point with Voters," these issues were addressed: the dumpsite area was cleaned up, and the road construction was accelerated, ensuring smoother travel for residents.
According to Mr. Hiep, what also pleases the people is that the government always clearly informs them which tasks need to be done immediately, which require time, and what the implementation schedule is. "I find the People's Council to be very responsible in its work. People understand that some tasks must follow procedures. Importantly, we see that the government truly listens and does not ignore the opinions of the people," he shared.
After three months of implementation in the hamlets of Ben Co, Thi Cau, and Phuoc Ly, the model has received 71 opinions and suggestions from voters. All opinions have been forwarded to the relevant agencies for consideration and resolution. To date, 13 issues have been resolved completely; 17 issues are being implemented according to schedule; and the remaining issues have been addressed by the Commune People's Committee, along with information on how to resolve them.
In Phuoc Ly hamlet, Mr. Duong Van Nhon, Head of the Hamlet's Front Committee, also witnessed significant changes from this model. According to him, when People's Council representatives directly visit the grassroots level, many issues are identified more fully, creating conditions for surveys and monitoring activities to be more closely aligned with reality. As evidence, the lighting system on a road in the hamlet has been upgraded with new lights following feedback from residents, making travel safer and contributing to the development of a civilized residential area.
Nguyen Van Dung, Secretary of the Thi Cau Hamlet Party Branch, assessed: “The ‘Meeting Point with Voters’ has become a practical bridge between the government and the people. Despite being implemented for only a short time, many issues related to infrastructure and cultural institutions in the locality have seen positive changes. He hopes this approach will continue to be maintained and expanded.”
According to Nguyen Thi Ngoc Mai, Vice Chairwoman of the People's Council of Dai Phuoc commune, if people only receive and forward petitions, they will find it difficult to feel the role of elected bodies. What voters want is to see concrete results after each time they submit a complaint.

Vietnam encourages US businesses to expand investment in high technology. On the morning of June 26th, at the Government Headquarters, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung received Mr. Jeff Place, Supply Chain Director of Coherent Group (USA). During the meeting, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that Vietnam encourages US businesses to expand investment, especially in high-tech, innovation, and semiconductor industries. Therefore, after each "Meeting with Voters," the Standing Committee of the Commune People's Council not only compiles opinions but also monitors the resolution process, directly inspects the site, urges specialized agencies, and informs voters of the results. "We always respect the opinions of voters, and at the same time closely monitor the resolution process so that people can see the tangible results. That is also a way to build trust in elected bodies," Ms. Mai shared.
The sidewalk in front of the school gate is wider today, not only because the flowerbeds have been removed. More noticeably, the gap between elected representatives and the people is gradually narrowing, as meetings in each hamlet go beyond simply listening, bringing the voices of voters closer to the government's offices.
