The project to expand the eastern section of the North-South Expressway from La Son to Hoa Lien is one of the key components of the eastern North-South Expressway, aiming to gradually improve the transportation infrastructure in the Central region, meet transportation needs, and alleviate congestion on National Highway 1. The project is managed by the Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Board. This expressway is approximately 65km long, with 4 lanes, a road surface widened to 22m, and a design speed of 60-80km/h according to expressway standards. The project passes through two localities: Hue City and Da Nang, with a total investment of over 3,010 billion VND from the State budget; the majority of which is allocated to construction and related technical infrastructure works... The project commenced in Hue City on May 29th, with a construction period of 240 days. The main contract package XL01 - construction of the La Son - Hoa Lien section - has a contract value of over 2,700 billion VND.
According to the plan, the project must be completed by early 2026. Representatives from the Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Board stated that, to date, land clearance along the route has basically met the requirements for a 4-lane road from the previous La Son - Tuy Loan project; currently, only additional land clearance is needed for some local roads and canal extensions.

Currently, construction work is mainly focused on roadbeds, bridges, drainage culverts, and traffic safety systems. Construction teams are deployed simultaneously, running continuously in three shifts per day to ensure the project meets the set deadline and to race against time before the rainy season.
On the construction site, the contractors mobilized 54 construction teams with more than 570 workers, 76 engineers, and hundreds of pieces of equipment and machinery to participate in the simultaneous construction.
Notably, along the entire project route, 50 bridges have been expanded with the addition of new sections, combining them with existing sections.
In many of the additional single-section bridges, the volume of bored piles – one of the complex items for the construction units – has reached 100% completion, such as the Ta Lang - Gian Bi bridge at Km51+741.79 with 21/21 piles completed; the bridge at Km41+950 with 10/10 piles completed; the bridge at Km60+986 with 14/14 piles completed… Representatives from the Ho Chi Minh Highway Project Management Board stated that, taking advantage of the dry weather, contractors are currently accelerating the progress of the project. The Board will continue to closely supervise the progress and quality of the work carried out by contractors and related units, ensuring absolute safety during the upcoming rainy season, and striving to complete the La Son - Hoa Lien expressway expansion project on schedule by early next year.
