Currently, the retail price of pickled shallots on the market ranges from 40,000 to 50,000 VND/kg, a decrease of about 10,000 to 20,000 VND/kg compared to two weeks ago.
According to observations at Vinh Long market, Hue shallots are sold at 50-60 thousand VND/kg, Dong Thap shallots at 40-45 thousand VND/kg; the price for pre-processing shallots (cleaning sand, peeling) is 10-15 thousand VND/kg, depending on the weight (photo).

Some small traders said that this year the quality of shallots is quite consistent, with large, beautiful bulbs; the selling price has not fluctuated much compared to the same period last year. Ms. Le Thi Be Bay, a small trader at Vinh Long market (Long Chau ward), said: “The price of shallots has decreased due to the lower demand for pickled shallots compared to the beginning of the twelfth lunar month. Shallots from Dong Thap are still selling quite well because they can be used in many stir-fried dishes, not just pickled like the shallots from Hue .”
Besides shallots, the prices of some accompanying ingredients have also fluctuated: Vinh Chau purple onions are 35,000 VND/kg; garlic is 40,000 VND/kg; chili peppers have decreased by about 20,000 VND/kg compared to last week, now costing 50,000 VND/kg.
