Gia Lai opens its doors to welcome tourism investment.

DNVN – With infrastructure, land resources, and mechanisms simultaneously "unlocked," Gia Lai is no longer just telling the story of its potential, but is proactively designing a space attractive enough for tourism capital to choose and stay in the long term.

Infrastructure opens the way for capital flows.

The highlight of the tourism promotion conference within the framework of the Vietnam International Tourism Fair - VITM Hanoi 2026, held on the afternoon of April 9th, was not Gia Lai's continued showcasing of its resources, but rather how the locality redefined the role of infrastructure in tourism development.

Ms. Do Thi Dieu Hanh, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province, delivered a speech at the conference.

In her statement, Ms. Do Thi Dieu Hanh, Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Gia Lai province, stated that infrastructure is not only a necessary condition, but is also positioned as a "lever" to transform potential into real investment capital.

In reality, the biggest bottleneck for many localities rich in tourism resources is not a lack of resources, but a lack of connectivity. Gia Lai seems to be heading straight for this "bottleneck".

Having both Pleiku and Phu Cat airports, along with plans to upgrade the runway at Phu Cat, significantly expands accessibility for tourists and investors. In particular, the ability to receive direct international flights not only increases visitor numbers but also creates conditions for developing high-value tourism products.

Conversely, the Quy Nhon – Pleiku expressway project is gradually bridging the geographical gap that used to be a major barrier between the highlands and the coast. With travel time reduced to approximately 1.5 hours, Gia Lai's tourism landscape will no longer be fragmented, but will become a seamless series of experiences.

More importantly, infrastructure development here is not a standalone effort. The preparation of large-scale, clean land plots in key areas shows that Gia Lai is not only "paving the way," but also "clearing the ground" so that capital can flow in immediately, instead of waiting. This is a remarkable shift in development thinking: from attracting investment to proactively creating favorable investment conditions.

Making tourism a pillar of growth.

While infrastructure is a necessary condition, the investment environment and new development approaches are the decisive factors in whether capital will stay or not.

The overarching message from Gia Lai's tourism leaders is that tourism development should not be pursued at all costs. Instead, the province chooses sustainable, selective development based on the philosophy of using culture as a foundation, nature as an advantage, and people as the central focus.

From a policy perspective, the commitment to shortening processing times by 30–50%, along with tax and land lease incentives, shows that efforts to improve the investment environment are being implemented concretely, no longer just as slogans.

But what's even more noteworthy is how Gia Lai views the role of the government. Beyond simply granting permits, the government is positioned as a partner – an increasingly decisive factor in the competitive landscape of attracting investment among localities.

The figure of 273 projects with a total registered capital of approximately 850,000 billion VND, awarded and signed at the 2026 Investment Promotion Conference, can be seen as a "measure of confidence." But more importantly, the challenge behind that number is the ability to turn commitments into reality.

In terms of products, Gia Lai also shows a clear shift by not following the beaten path of simply exploiting resources. The inter-regional tours "Wind of the Great Forest - Blue Waves of the Sea" are not just tourism products, but a way to redefine development space, where the highlands and the coast are no longer separate, but complement each other.

The orientation towards green tourism, community-based tourism development, and agriculture also shows a more cautious approach: growth is inseparable from people's livelihoods and ecosystem conservation.

Set against the backdrop of Gia Lai hosting the National Tourism Year 2026, these steps demonstrate that the locality is not only taking advantage of the opportunity to promote itself, but is also seizing the "media highlight" to attract investment.

A noteworthy observation made by Ms. Do Thi Dieu Hanh is that potential, without investors, remains merely "valuable capital lying dormant." Perhaps this is what sets Gia Lai apart: it's no longer just talking about potential, but is gradually creating the conditions necessary for capital to flow in and stay.

If commitments regarding infrastructure, investment environment, and development orientation are consistently implemented, Gia Lai's tourism sector has every reason to become not just a service industry, but a new growth pillar in the local economic structure.

Market expansion partnerships

Within the framework of the conference, the discussion session chaired by the leaders of the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee and the Vietnam Tourism Association became a space for substantive exchange between management agencies and the business community. Many opinions focused on core issues such as mechanisms for attracting investment, linking tour routes, developing products, and improving service quality.

The discussions not only clarified the potential and opportunities, but also pointed out the "bottlenecks" that need to be addressed so that Gia Lai's tourism can develop in proportion to its advantages.

The conference also witnessed the signing of cooperation agreements between the Gia Lai Tourism Association and the Hanoi Tourism Association, as well as many other localities nationwide. This is seen as a concrete step to expand the tourist market, strengthen regional linkages, and gradually shape highly interconnected tourism product chains.
