ANTD.VN - After peaking at 83,000 VND/kg at the beginning of the week, by the end of last week (March 14), the price of live pigs began to decrease slightly in many localities.

Pork prices are gradually falling.

According to reports, in the northern region, live pig prices continued to decrease by one price in Tuyen Quang, Vinh Phuc, and Hung Yen , all reaching 76,000 VND/kg.

Currently, traders in the North are buying live pigs at prices ranging from 75,000 to 77,000 VND/kg. The highest price in the region, 77,000 VND/kg, is recorded in Hanoi , Thai Nguyen, Bac Giang, Hai Duong, and Phu Tho.

The live pig market in Central Vietnam and the Central Highlands also followed a downward trend in some localities this morning. Currently, the price of live pigs in this region ranges from 76,000 to 81,000 VND/kg.

Specifically, the price in Binh Dinh is 77,000 VND/kg; Quang Binh, Thanh Hoa and Hue are 76,000 VND/kg; and Ha Tinh is 75,000 VND/kg.

In the Southern market, only Binh Duong province saw a decrease to 81,000 VND/kg, while other provinces and cities remained stable at around 80,000 - 82,000 VND/kg.

Accordingly, Ho Chi Minh City, Ba Ria - Vung Tau, Dong Nai, Tay Ninh, Binh Phuoc, and Ca Mau are currently the localities with the highest live pig prices in the country, reaching 82,000 VND/kg.

Thus, compared to the price at the beginning of the week, the price of live pigs has decreased by 1,000-2,000 VND/kg in many localities. However, pork prices on the market have not yet formed a downward trend due to a certain time lag.

According to representatives from the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment, as of February 2025, the total pig population nationwide exceeded 30 million, a 3.7% increase compared to the same period last year. The current shortage of live pigs is only localized due to increased demand for pork before, during, and after the Lunar New Year, resulting in high prices. Therefore, businesses and pig farmers have sold their pigs to meet market demand, leading to a decrease in the total herd size.

There are several reasons for the recent decrease in live pig numbers; however, experts affirm that the supply of pork is sufficient to meet domestic demand and that live pig prices will only increase in the short term.
