Pi Network is currently facing allegations of price manipulation. Analyst Dr. Altcoin claims the development team orchestrated a sophisticated "dump" campaign.
They are suspected of creating a media frenzy ahead of the Consensus event and the announcement of the Pi Ecosystem, causing the price of Pi to rise from $0.40 to $1.60. While the market was still euphoric, this group is believed to have sold off large quantities of tokens.
The community's expectations of a Mainnet launch accompanied by hundreds of high-quality decentralized applications quickly faded.
Instead, on May 14th, the development team only announced the Pi Network Ventures initiative, which disappointed many.
Subsequently, the price of Pi plummeted to $0.80 and, according to Dr. Altcoin's assessment, could return to its original level of $0.40, erasing all expectations.
Dr. Altcoin stated: "The Pi Core Team has scammed the community, and nobody has realized it yet."
Currently, Pi Network has not issued an official response. The incident is seen as a warning to retail investors about the risks of chasing media hype and vague expectations in the cryptocurrency market.
Nicolas Kokkalis's speech was cliché and lacked information.
For the first time since Pi Network launched in 2019, founder Nicolas Kokkalis officially appeared before the media, dispelling rumors that he had "abandoned the project" or disappeared like Bitcoin's Satoshi Nakamoto.
However, instead of creating a positive effect, his speech at the Coindesk Consensus 2025 conference coincided with a sharp decline in Pi's price.
In his presentation on May 16th in Austin, USA, Kokkalis said: "I'm not here to talk about technology, but to talk about belief." He asserted that Pi Network is not just a cryptocurrency, but a global ecosystem.
His topics revolved around AI, blockchain, and the path to mass adoption of the technology. However, he did not provide any specific information about the development progress or plans for expanding the Pi network.
Kokkalis argues that Know Your Customer (KYC) is core to a sustainable blockchain. While acknowledging that the network is not yet fully open, he emphasizes that opening up should be accompanied by safeguards and fraud prevention measures, rather than being rushed.
Many users were later disappointed because the speech was perceived as generic, lacking clear information or momentum for the price of Pi, which continued to fall after the event.
