Farmers in Giồng Riềng commune are harvesting cucumbers.
Currently, traders are buying cucumbers directly from the fields at 15,000 - 20,000 VND/kg, double the price compared to early May 2026. Cucumbers are a crop with a short growing season, just over a month from planting to harvesting, easy to care for, and suitable for the local soil conditions.
According to farmers, the investment cost per hectare is about 10-12 million VND, with an average yield of about 3 tons per hectare. At current prices, growers are making a fairly high profit.
Besides cucumbers, many other vegetables have also seen price increases. Gourds and loofahs are being purchased by traders at 12,000 - 15,000 VND/kg. Leafy vegetables such as sweet cabbage, green cabbage, and water spinach are priced at 10,000 - 15,000 VND/kg, an increase of about 3,000 - 5,000 VND/kg compared to before.
Meanwhile, bird's eye chili peppers remained stable at around 20,000 VND/kg, significantly lower than before the Lunar New Year when prices reached 60,000 - 85,000 VND/kg.
According to vegetable growers, the rainy season brings unfavorable weather conditions that lead to increased pest and disease outbreaks, reduced fruit setting rates, and increased susceptibility to waterlogging in leafy vegetables, affecting yield and quality. The reduced supply is the main reason for the recent price increase of many vegetables.
