Leverage advantages to increase production efficiency.
According to the provincial agricultural sector's assessment, the weather in the first half of 2026 was generally favorable. As a result, agricultural production and cultivation activities in the localities remained stable, covering over 914,000 hectares. The Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection reported that, specifically for rice, Lam Dong province planted over 105,000 hectares in the past six months, an increase of 1.7% compared to the same period last year, with a harvested yield of 367,878 tons, reaching 100.6% of the target for the same period.
Thus, building on the success of the 2025-2026 winter-spring crop, this year's summer-autumn crop has favorable conditions for production. Besides irrigation water, the early season rains have helped to cool the soil and create ideal moisture levels, allowing farmers to plant and care for their crops on schedule.
In the rice-growing areas of the southeastern part of the province, by the end of June 2026, the entire area of summer-autumn rice, nearly 42,500 hectares, had been planted. Currently, farmers are focusing on caring for the crops and applying the first round of fertilizer.
Elderly farmer Duong Tien Hoa (68 years old) in Kim Ngoc residential area (Ham Thang ward) shared: “This year's summer-autumn crop, my family cultivated 5 sao (approximately 0.5 hectares) of ST25 rice. Thanks to more favorable weather than in previous years, along with proactive irrigation water management, the rice, now 30 days old, is thriving, and we expect high yield and quality.”
Young farmer Bui Cong Dao, who lives in the same neighborhood, shared: “My family cultivates 5 hectares of rice. Compared to last year's summer-autumn crop, thanks to favorable weather and sufficient irrigation water, the one-month-old rice is developing very well.”
According to the Provincial Department of Crop Production and Plant Protection, the southeastern region of Lam Dong province has an annual rice cultivation area of over 120,000 hectares, with an average yield of more than 790,000 tons per year. Therefore, this area has become a key rice-growing region of the province. However, despite favorable production conditions, the rice market is volatile. Currently, with prices exceeding 5,000 VND/kg for fresh paddy, while input costs continue to rise, farmers are making little profit and earning low incomes, causing them considerable concern.

Reduce costs, increase value.
Instead of giving up, many farmers, with local support and guidance, have participated in the "High-Quality Organic Rice Production" model. This aims to reduce production costs, increase the value of agricultural products, and secure a more stable market.
For example, in Ham Thang ward, 16 households participated in the model during the 2026 summer-autumn crop season, cultivating a total of 15.25 hectares of ST25 rice. The implementation period was from May to September 2026. The total cost of the model was over 200 million VND (funded by Government Decree No. 112/2024/ND-CP dated September 11, 2024). Among them, Mr. Hoa and Mr. Dao are two of the many local households that met the criteria and participated in the model.
According to Ms. Do Thi Ly, the officer in charge of the model (Ham Thang Ward General Service Center), participants in the model receive 50% support for seeds and 40% for agricultural supplies. The total value of fertilizer support is over 148 million VND and seed support is over 55 million VND, along with ongoing technical guidance on production.
Ms. Ly added that the locality has rice fields with controlled irrigation. Along with that, the climate and soil conditions are suitable for developing high-quality rice varieties. Introducing ST25 into the model aims to shift from simply producing high-yield rice to producing high-quality rice, increasing income per unit area. Furthermore, ST25 has wide adaptability and grows well in many different ecological zones when the correct technical procedures are applied.

Besides Ham Thang ward, farmers in other key rice-growing areas in the southeastern part of the province, such as Bac Ruong and Tanh Linh, are focusing on tending their summer-autumn rice crop. In particular, in Bac Ruong commune, out of over 2,300 hectares of rice production area, 900 hectares are cultivated under the large-scale field model for high-quality rice. Additionally, there are 10 hectares dedicated to certified rice seed propagation and 40 hectares for organic rice production.
Currently, thanks to favorable weather and soil conditions, rice farmers in the southeastern region of Lam Dong province are hoping for a breakthrough in the efficiency of their summer-autumn rice crop. Simultaneously, with the support of the State and local authorities, farmers are striving to seize these "favorable circumstances" to gradually establish the position of Lam Dong's rice as a valuable commodity.
The Provincial People's Committee issued Decision No. 1523/QD-UBND dated April 16, 2026, on the allocation of funds to support local rice production in 2026 according to Government Decree No. 112/2024/ND-CP (including the remaining funds from 2025 that were not allocated in the budget). Specifically, the Provincial People's Committee allocated targeted supplementary funds in 2026 to communes and wards to support activities related to rice cultivation land according to Decree No. 112, with an amount of nearly 120 billion VND. The funding comes from the central government's targeted supplementary funds for Lam Dong province in 2026; funds supporting local rice production; and other provincial budget expenditures.
