According to adjustments by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance, the price of RON 95-III gasoline (the most common type on the market) increased by 5,120 VND, to 30,690 VND per liter. Similarly, E5 RON 92 increased by 4,670 VND, with a new price of 27,170 VND.
Prices for petroleum products (excluding fuel oil) increased by 3,400 - 8,990 VND per liter depending on the type compared to the previous price adjustment period. Specifically, the new prices for each liter of diesel and kerosene are 33,420 VND and 35,920 VND respectively.
This is the sixth consecutive price adjustment period in which the inter-ministerial committee has used the Price Stabilization Fund. The amount spent is lower than in previous periods. Diesel and kerosene received 4,000 VND from the fund, while gasoline and fuel oil received 3,000 VND per liter.

After adjustments, the price of RON-95 gasoline is at its highest level since July 2022 – a period of energy crisis caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict. However, this level is still lower than the peak of 32,870 VND per liter set in June 2022. Meanwhile, kerosene and fuel oil both recorded record highs since 2019.
According to preliminary statistics from the Customs Department ( Ministry of Finance ), from the beginning of the year to March 15th, Vietnam imported nearly 2.71 million tons of various types of petroleum products, with a value of over 1.94 billion USD - an increase of 42-43% compared to the same period last year. In the first 15 days of March alone, the volume of imported petroleum products increased by 41.4%, leading to a surge in import value of 89.2% compared to the same period.
In recent days, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has held telephone conversations and sent official letters to leaders of many countries, as well as working with ambassadors of various countries in Vietnam, requesting their support in securing oil supplies to ensure energy security. For example, Vietnam has mobilized 4 million barrels of oil from partners, and has requested access to oil released from Japan's reserves... The Ministry of Industry and Trade - Ministry of Finance has also allocated a high amount from the Fuel Price Stabilization Fund, 4,000-5,000 VND per liter for gasoline and diesel, and reduced the MFN preferential tax rate to 0% to support fuel prices.
At the working session with the Energy Security Task Force on March 17, the Prime Minister assessed that the supply of gasoline, oil, and energy is sufficient for production and consumption, and that negative impacts on people and businesses are minimized.
