According to the rules, athletes will compete in the following events: men's singles, women's singles, men's doubles, women's doubles, men's triples, and women's triples.

Petanque is a sport with simple rules, easy to play, and requires relatively low investment in courts, equipment, and training tools. In 2006, Da Nang city first included petanque as a competitive event within the framework of the City Sports Festival. Since 2022, the city has organized an annual petanque championship to create more opportunities for petanque players.

In Da Nang, there are now 10 pétanque courts for people to practice.

The petanque movement is gradually developing and becoming a popular choice among the people. Most districts and counties have courts for petanque athletes to practice, with the districts of Ngu Hanh Son, Hai Chau, Son Tra, and Thanh Khe being considered the four localities with the strongest petanque movement. Many petanque clubs and teams have been established, participating in tournaments organized by various levels and sectors, thereby meeting the needs for training, competition, and entertainment for all segments of the population. Through these tournaments, the organizing committee selects outstanding athletes for the city's petanque team to compete in national championships. Currently, the city has invested in building approximately 10 standard petanque courts in the districts of Ngu Hanh Son, Hai Chau, Son Tra, and Thanh Khe.
