Petanque is a sport with simple rules, easy to play and low investment costs for fields, equipment and training tools. In 2006, for the first time, Da Nang city included petanque in the competition within the framework of the City Sports Festival. From 2022, the city will organize an annual petanque championship to create more playgrounds for petanque players.

In Da Nang, there are 10 petanque courts for people to practice.

The petanque movement is also gradually developing widely and being chosen by the people. Most districts have courts for petanque athletes to practice. Notably, the districts of Ngu Hanh Son, Hai Chau, Son Tra, and Thanh Khe are considered the four localities with the strongest development of the petanque movement. Many petanque clubs and teams have been established, participating in tournaments organized by all levels and sectors, thereby meeting the needs of training, competition, and entertainment for all classes of people. Through the tournaments, the Organizing Committee selects excellent athletes for the city's petanque team to compete in national championships. Currently, the city has invested in building about 10 standard petanque courts in the districts of Ngu Hanh Son, Hai Chau, Son Tra, and Thanh Khe.
