This is not a joke or some silly advice on social media, but a scientifically proven method of weight loss.

Tyson Fury also has to lose weight

The Keto (Ketogenic) diet is a high-fat, low-carb, moderate-protein diet that puts the body into a state of ketosis - where it burns fat for energy instead of using sugar from starch.

In the Keto method, fat accounts for 70-75% of the nutrients taken into the body each day, protein accounts for 20-25%, while starch accounts for only a maximum of 10%.

It may sound absurd, but keto is the method chosen by many of the world's top athletes when they want to lose weight. The most famous is heavyweight boxer Tyson Fury.

After reaching the peak of his career in 2015, Tyson Fury went through a difficult period with depression, alcoholism and a life of excess. As a result, he gained 180kg in weight.

About 2 years later, Fury decided to lose weight, and chose the Keto method to lose weight. Specifically, Fury chose "dirty Keto", a variation of this method.

According to "dirty Keto", Tyson Fury ate a lot of fried red meat, sausages, bacon, eggs, cheese, mayonnaise, butter and rye bread.

"At first, like everyone else, I didn't think this was a diet. But the truth is, I lost all my excess weight," Fury said. After exactly 12 months, Fury lost 65kg to 115kg.

Why is Keto effective?

It sounds really paradoxical, eating all fatty foods and losing weight. But this is a method that has been scientifically proven. Specifically, according to the explanation of Dr. Eric Westman, Head of Clinical Nutrition (Duke University - USA):

1. When there is a lack of starch, the body is forced to burn fat (ketosis)

Explanation: The body normally uses glucose (from starch) for energy. When starch is strictly restricted (<50g/day), the liver will convert fat into ketones to provide energy – this is the state of ketosis.

Result: Accumulated fat (including belly fat, visceral fat) will be burned continuously to maintain energy.

2. Long-lasting fat – helps control hunger

Feeling full longer, fat and protein digest slower than starch, helping to reduce hunger and snacking.

3. Stabilize insulin – fat-storing hormone

Insulin helps move sugar from the blood into cells, but high insulin levels (when eating a lot of starch) also promote fat storage. Keto helps reduce insulin levels, leading to reduced fat storage and increased fat breakdown.

4. Reduce initial body water weight

Starch retains water, each 1g of glycogen (from starch) retains 3-4g of water, when cutting starch, the body loses water quickly, helping to lose weight strongly in the first 1-2 weeks.

But this is only temporary, in the long run you still need to burn fat for sustainable loss.

Athletes like Tyson Fury choose the Keto diet (or its variations like "Dirty Keto") because of its unique benefits that make it suitable for rapid weight loss and muscle maintenance goals, especially when they need to lose fat quickly while maintaining strength.

Keto also helps reduce blood sugar fluctuations, reduce sugar-induced mood swings, and provide steady energy thanks to ketones – good fuel for the brain. Many studies have also shown that the Keto diet can improve mood and cognitive function.
