CIA Director Secretly Visits China

According to CNN, the Director of the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), William Burns, visited China last month.

This was a secret visit by one of the highest-ranking officials in President Joe Biden's administration. Burns' trip comes as the U.S. is stepping up high-level engagements with Beijing in an attempt to stabilize the relationship.

The White House and the CIA declined to comment. China has also not commented on the matter.

Also this month, US National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan met with Wang Yi, Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Communist Party of China, in Vienna, Austria. The White House did not announce the meeting until after it concluded.
