Gold prices this afternoon, December 20, 2024: Domestic gold bar prices continued their downward trend this afternoon, reaching their lowest level in the past two months, trading at 83.6 million VND/ounce.

As of 2:30 PM on December 20, 2024, the price of gold bars on the exchanges of several companies continued to remain stable.

The price of SJC gold, as listed by Saigon Jewelry Company (SJC), is 81.6-83.6 million VND/ounce, a decrease of 500,000 VND/ounce compared to the previous day's closing price. The difference between the buying and selling price is 2.0 million VND.

Today, DOJI lists the price of 9999 gold at 81.6 million VND/ounce for buying and 83.6 million VND/ounce for selling.

PNJ gold is being bought at 82.7 million VND/ounce and sold at 83.55 million VND/ounce, a decrease of 400,000 VND and 500,000 VND respectively compared to yesterday's closing price.

The price of SJC gold at Bao Tin Minh Chau Co., Ltd. is also being traded at 81.60-83.60 million VND/ounce (buying price - selling price).

The price of plain gold rings decreased this morning, following the trend of gold bars. Saigon Jewelry Company listed the price of gold rings at 81.6 - 83.3 million VND/ounce (buying - selling). Meanwhile, Doji Group listed the price of plain rings at 82.55 - 83.55 million VND/ounce; Phu Nhuan Gold Company listed plain rings at 82.7 - 83.55 million VND/ounce.

Currently, the price of gold on the international market is at its lowest level in a month, hovering around $2,598 per ounce. Converted using the Vietcombank selling exchange rate, the world gold price is currently equivalent to 79.9 million VND per tael, which is 3-3.7 million VND per tael lower than the domestic price.

Gold prices are being held back today by the strong US dollar. Earlier, the gold market edged up slightly after the latest US data reinforced market expectations that the Fed will take a cautious approach to easing policy next year.

Previous data showed that the US economy grew faster than expected in the third quarter, while the number of unemployment benefit claims also fell more than anticipated.

Bart Melek, a commodity strategist at TD Securities, commented that the growth data and jobless claims indicate the US economy remains robust. This reaffirms that the Fed has reason to act aggressively, which is traditionally not good for gold.

Recently, Heraeus Precious Metals, a financial group, predicted that the price of gold will trade in the range of $2,450-$2,950 per ounce in 2025.

The multinational investment bank Goldman Sachs forecasts that demand for gold will continue to rise as central banks seek to diversify their reserves. According to analysts, increased gold purchases by central banks, particularly China, will push the price of the precious metal to $3,000 per ounce by the end of 2025.
